im new to this so please forgive any stupidity.

Hello i just built a new machine using e6300 and gigabyte ds3 board, i noticed the fan wasnt always spinning, after checking on forums i was put at ease to hear that this was normal.

I installed windows xp which took longer than i thought it would, but thought nothing of it i went to bed and slept well with thoughts of my new machine being ready for action when i woke the next day.

Next morning i started up machine everything booted up fine and windows seemed ok too. I installed pc wizard 2007 and ran cpu tests etc the scores were poor, i then checked cpu temp it was 85 degrees and the fan was at 10rpm i **** myself then the machine colapsed.

Ifired her back up and opened bios changed the smartfan to the intel one and to pwm it now seems to work.

Sorry for the length of this post put do you guys think that this is the end of my fan problem and is this a common problem with this setup.

could anyone help put my mind at ease regarding this problem?

Also what sort of damage would have been caused to the cpu by running it for (not sure how much time) with insufficient cooling.

Thanks for that im almost 100% sure everything is plugged in fine. As i have used it since the problem with the smartfan disabled i was just wondering about damage and possible reoccurance.

Thanks for you reply.

i thank you both my mind is at ease.

Although i am concerned that this can happen, out of the box i would expect the fans to be on a basic setting of high giving the user the option to change it if they wish.

Ill be gone untill i No Swearing! something else up that is.

Again appreciate your help. :p
