Hey there,

Ive decided to upgrade my old and outdated machine, as its on its last legs and i feel the need, the need for speed. :D

Ive been out of the scene for some time now and really dont know whats what.

Im looking to get a new CPU, Mobo and RAM as i already have a X1950pro AGP card which id like to keep.

Now the annoying part. Im on such a tight budget its unbleiveable, all three need to come up to no more than £150, a joke i know but really cannot afford any more.

Ive been scanning around on a competitors site, as OcUK doesn't really have what i need, i think, and have come up with the following:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000+ (2.1GHz) Socket AM2 Energy Efficient L2 1MB (2x512KB) Cache Retail Boxed Processor

ASRock AM2NF3-VSTA nForce3 250 Skt AM2 SATA 8 channel audio ATX

Crucial 2GB kit (1GBx2) DDR2 PC2-4200 CL=4 UNBUFFERED NON-ECC DDR2-533 1.8V

All totting up to a measly £157.14.

Now, i need this for a do it all machine really, i do play a lot of games but im not going to spend loads to get an extra 2 FPS out of a game, and im not looking for EVERYTHING on high, i just want it to look nice, medium/high settings.
I mainly play BF2, CoH and have just purchased STALKER, but cannot be bothered to play it with everything on low :p

So, slate my options if you choose, but im just wondering if this would be a "good" set-up for me.

Cheers for the help,
Dan

Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-5400C4 TwinX (2x1GB)
Asrock 4CoreDual-VSTA (Socket 775) PCI-Express/AGP DDR2 Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Duo E2140 "LGA775 Conroe" 1.60GHz (800FSB) - Retail

Something like that will be fine, if you can get like £20 more.

Thats £168.28 inc. VAT & Delivery.

Stupid question really :D

Added it up and reckon i could push for some more.

How would this set up clock?

Would it be advisable getting a CPU cooler as well?

Im not sure about the Processor myself.

But im sure you can get a fair bit out of it.

Any way you can get closer to £200?

That would mean getting a better Motherboard/RAM for Overclocking.

The ASRock is what will be stopping you from Overclocking it too far.

Perhaps you can buy it second hand from somewhere? As you cannot access the Members Market.

This is what id most recommend if you can get the funds:

GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C5 800MHz Value DDR2 Dual Channel Kit
Gigabyte GA_965P_S3 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Duo E2140 "LGA775 Conroe" 1.60GHz (800FSB) - Retail

Total : £197.66 inc.

His GPU is x1950AGP, and he doesn't want to buy a PCI-E card...

the Asrock 4coredual-VSTA, the e2160 and a gig of ram will do it for your price, and the 2160 will get to 2.7Ghz easy...if you want to up the FSB any more than 300Mhz though you need to do a pencil mod

I'm currently running a P4 2800+, god knows what mobo and 512mb of RAM as i borked the other stick. With the x1950pro.

In other news that bike ride turned into a broken collarbone and arm so :(

This is what i would do.

Sell your current motherboard, CPU and ram for about £50. I would also sell the video card and because it's an AGP version you should get about £100. Now add the money you were gonna spend £200 (if you manage to push to that) and that will give you £350 :)

Then buy the following

Sapphire ATI Radeon X1950 Pro 512MB £111.61 inc VAT

Gigabyte GA_965P_DS3P £88.11 inc VAT

GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C5 800MHz Value DDR2 £58.74 inc VAT

Intel Core 2 Duo E4300 "LGA775 Allendale" 1.80GHz £78.71 inc VAT

Total inc delivery = £346.87

If you could spare another £10 i would change the ram to GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit at £70.49

Hope this helps
