HELP! - Creating a DVD with Subtitles (Crap title edited)

I have a .avi film fine and a subtitle file to go with it I wish to put them both on a dvd so when you are watching the video it displays the subtitles how do I do this?

I am not entirely sure whether WinAvi does it automatically, if not then, look here
