I'm thinking of buying a Samsung LE32R74BDX and either a PS3 or an Xbox360.

Any recommendations on which console to get (I like hl2,css, gta:vc,violence, car comabt, fps)?

Whats the cheapest you've seen the Samsung LE32R74BDX sold for?

Can you help me decide which to get?

Going on the games you like, go for a 360. So far the PS3 has no exclusives in any of those categories apart from the rather mundane Resistance: Fall of Man. Also the types of titles you want are very western oriented so would be much less likely to be PS3 exclusive in the future.

The only other consideration is if you want a Blu-Ray player, if so that would make the PS3 the logical choice.

This generation there are going to be many fewer exclusives due to the cost of development, so buy the cheaper console and put the extra money towards games.

You can get a 360 for £280 which has both Gears of War (3rd Person shooter that many rave about, though not my cup of tea) and also Crackdown (which is sort of like GTA on steroids).

EDIT: I shall don my flame proof suit for the roasting I am likely to get from PS3 fans...

360 definetely.

Its getting the Half life 2 orange box which has Episode 2, portal, team fortress etc. Its getting GTA with exclusive content and has Saints row and Crackdown which are very similar. Gears of war, Call of duty 3, rainbow six Vegas and GRAW 2 for your shooters.
Condemned, FEAR for violence and PGR 3, Test drive unlimited and Forza motorsport 2 and Burnout, Full auto for the car combat.

Nope as a PS3 owner sounds like a 360 would do him fine if he wants a console now. In the next few months not sure how it will work out. One thing to add is that the games such as the new Unreal tournament on PS3 will use keyboard/ mouse and i think it will be the first of many PS3 FPS games to use this combination the 360 version doesnt support it. You can get a wired keyboard mouse adapator for the 360 not sure how well it works though.

I have that same model Samsung myself and I really like it. I've seen it for £600, though I paid £640 but unfortunately I can't tell you where as it'd break forum rules. In short though, you can get it for around the 600 mark if you look around.

As for which console to buy I would say to go with a 360 for now. It's clearly got the better games selection at least for the moment. It may be worth checking out which games are due for release on PS3 though and seeing if any of them appeal to you.

360, no contest.

I would give that answer to anyone asking the same question in the next 6 months. After that things may change, but for now it's a very easy decision.

cheers guys

I have just got my self a ps3 and only seen a 360 in action two or three times, I think sony has all the big game contracts which will come out later this year. It has Blu-Ray which im sure you kno about so that will save you money in the long run. Also if you want to play it online that is free, mines connected via wireless which taken 3mins to setup and i can play chat browes all day long free where as 360 dont you need to pay for xbox live or something im not to sure. I have also put 10GB of music on my ps3 and its just like a home media centre then just a console. Remember mouse and keyboard also work for ps3.

If you can wait get the ps3 and its more future proof, if you cant then the 360 is for you.

TV im not sure, mines running on a 32" LG LCD HDTV

Hahaha I'm pretty sure wedgie said in another thread he had one. What he says make perfect sense too. For the next 6 months there's more to be had on the 360 and when more games come out for the PS3 he may change that view.

Whats so bad about that opinion? Apart from the obvious sony defense mechanism.

What are you on about :S he said it might change 6 months which is completely true... the 360 walks all over the PS3 at the moment, and yes i own both.

Well if the Elite Xbox is true surely anyone who buys a 360 at the moment is not going to be very impressed when an "improved" 360 is released in a couple of months time? Thats my thinking and what happens in 12 months time another xobox360 improvement with built in wi-fi or HD drive? I have already said i think the 360 is best to get now in the short term, but 6 months down the line who knows! I got a PS3 as it offers a things i cant get from my PC game wise, maybe not now but in a few months it will.

HL2 and CSS - sounds like you want some decent FPS action, well its generally considered that Halo is the king of FPS games on consoles and Halo 3 will be out later this year and will most likely be the biggest game of the year.

GTA IV will be out as well in October on the 360, but similiar games like Crackdown and Saints Row are already out for the 360 to keep you occupied until then.

Violence, , well, if Gears doesnt give you enough blood and guts then I'm not sure what will. As mentioned above there is also games like FEAR and Hitman Blood Money out which should satisfy your violent needs :p

The deal mentioned in the earlier reply from a well known online retailer would suit you perfectly I think, Gears of War and Crackdown with a premium console for £290.

a lot of PS3 owners are raving about how the line up will eventually be good for the PS3, but I'm also sure a lot of people will agree that they want good games now, not 'sometime in the future'.

The releases for 360 07 games is impressive covering all genres with quality looking games, should be an excellent year for gaming.

Despite some misconceptions, the 360 is every bit as powerful as the PS3, and it always will be, the consoles will be fighting it out for the next few years..

However, with 18 months head start and a great games catalogue (some now £15) it is hard not to recommend the 360...

All the obvious reasons have been stated.

1. You can get fantastic bundle deals, 360 Premium + GoW + Crackdown + XBLA Unplugged + Extra Wireless Controller = £305..

2. It has an amazing line up this year, and there is no waiting for titles to appear, lots are here right now

3. If you want HD-DVD later on, you can, just spend the cash when you need it

But then again, if you want BR and like Sony, the PS3 is every bit as excellent as the 360, it is suffering a bit from lack of games right now, so you will have to wait a bit between good titles, but for the casual gamer, like most of us, it's got just about enough to keep you entertained, and it won't disappoint..

Ok so not really given the 360 a fair crack of the whip then have you....

It does? News to me. But if you are right then what is the point in buying one now if it doesn't have much to play until later in the year?

Why will it? Eventually BR players will be £30 in the supermarket. BR players are only worth having if you have a decent TV AND a budget to afford HD films - inwhich case, of course, you could just get the HD_DVD add-on. MS are suggesting that they may support BR in the future too.

Live is £40 a year which apparently is the same as the additional running cost in electricity of a PS3. Live may also be free before long too.

Which aspect can't be done with a 360? 360 supports USB keyboard out of the box.... and for streaming from your PC the 360 works brilliantly with MS operating systems...

How is it future proof? How is any console future proof?
