Please help guys iv lost over 4 years of work emails.

I deleted my pop account in mail by accident and although i set it up again immediately using the same information all my inbox/sent/trash emails have gone!

Iv looked in the library-mail folder where they should be but can only see a few recent emails from today from after i reset up!

I don't use time machine or have a back up (stupid i know).

Any help would be much appreciated!!!

:(:(:(

Firstly, stop using your system, just to ensure that nothing is accidentally written over. Find some recovery software (sorry, I don't have any recommendations) and see if you can recover the files through that. The emails alone should be readable files, I think.

Few points to make though:
  • If you are using your system for work, yet you aren't backing up, no offence but that is an insane thing to do. I'm "only" in college and have four or five copies of my work, overkill, but just in case something crazy happens, I still have everything. At least you know now!
  • Check your settings when configuring accounts in Mail.
  • Avoid using POP if possible, IMAP will make your life easier.

I do think i will need some recovery software.

Uv had a look at a fee recovery softwares and they all say you have to boot from CD, but my mac book air has no drive!!!

Can you not boot from USB instead?!

Open Mail, then go into Time Machine. Select a date/time from before you deleted it all and it will all show up, you can then drag the emails back out of Time Machine.

/edit - Just re-read and saw you don't use Time Machine.

You're probably stuffed.

I can't be of any use, but there's a saying for times like this...

There are two types of people in this world: Those who keep backups, and those who have never lost any important data.

Login to the server and look for them via web?

Otherwise your stuffed pretty much, I've tried to recover things from OS X disks before and whilst you may be able to recover some of the emails, inevitably your not going to get them all back. Plus getting them back into mail is an absolute PITA.

You've learn the hard way. Now time for a backup disk, no?

This is exactly why I haven't used POP for years and years and I'm making sure the rest of the family are the same.

I think there's a good recovery prog called Stellar Recovery, used it once a few years back
