Help diagnose a probleme !

hello,
i have a recurrent issue that just drive me nuts, and i need help to pinpoint the source of the probleme for sure, to change the hardware.
running 280X on FX 6300, Win7 64, 8go DDR3, akasa venom 850, mobo MSI 980A_G46

the freeze happens during gaming it's completly random, could be minutes, could be hours, could be days...sometimes during gaming the sound also freeze in a loop.
crash happen on SSD install or HDD install. different windows install.
im looking for a way to be able to recreate myself the freeze, and be able to know which hardware is the cause.

PS : there is a weird thing, whenever i unplud all psu connections, then replug them back, the pc doesnt freeze for quiet sometime, but after few days it starts freeezing again, and with each freeze it becomes more and more frequent untill, i unplud/plug again to be able to game for few days without going nuts.

Check your RAM is getting the correct power, and is not set to BIOS default.

You will be surprised to hear but I had a similar issue to you, when during the Spring decided to set everything to default on the system. BSOD once every day or so, after the cold boot and on random times, regardless if I was gaming or not.

When decided I had enough, several weeks later, I looked at the CPUZ and the memory was getting less power on the default settings than it should.

I put back again all the overclocks, set the memory to the correct power setting, and not a single crash many months now.

Had a similar issue years back, it was the psu not feeding enough power to the system. I had random freezes and sound loops etc same as you described.

Try the above first though, less hassle than trying a different psu.

i have corsair XMS3 DDR3 1600 , 1.65V
i checked cpu z it's running as 1333 not 1600, i enabled the OCgenie on the bios, and set the ram and boost on the cpu, OMG im lucky to be writing here, the pc started restarting every few secondes, keyboard wasn't working on boot, impossible to start bios, pc restarting in the middle of repair, anyway, i removed the cmos battery and with some luck i managed to finish a repair, and enter windows, yet on reboot keyboard didnt work, lucky enough didnt reboot till i installed OS bios and set to default from windows...a nightmare
the probleme might be the mobo afterall.
i want to set the ram for the correct frequency at the correct voltage but im scared i would get the same probleme, i will run memtest and see.

OC Genie doesn't help at all when comes to memory configuration.

Turn it off from the motherboard button.

Use the BIOS directly or the OC BIOS application MSI provides to set your memory to 1.65v. Nothing else. Afterwards if all goes well raise the memory to the correct speed.

But make sure the OC Genie is off and do not use the command centre.

Exactly the same issue I had tbh. My memory on default settings was underclocked and underpowered, making the system unstable.

Dram Voltage set to 1.652V instead of auto, but cpuz still shows Dram frequency 666Mhz

i changed some setup to enable xmp and link dram timing, and frequency to 1600, also changed the timing manualy, but still shows as 666mhz in cpuz just wont go to 800, dont see what am missing, anyway so far no freeze, i dont really care about the frequency as long as it's stable.
first i thought the cpu needed a boost for the frequency to stick, thats why i used OCgenie, but that crap is buged like hell.
let me know if i missed something to OC the ram, im kinda noob at it, but i think i did what i knew, thx !

memory still wont overclock no matter what i try, but so far so good no freeze to report, i really hope the probleme is as simple as bumping the voltage of the ram.
