My Mondeo estate (mk3) is making the strangest sound when it's being driven at motorway speeds and I'm hoping someone on here may be able to have a good guess at the problem.

It's like a constant whining sound, seems to be coming from the offside of the car quite high up on the body. It's fairly high pitched, somewhere between a sludge tanker and a dolphin mating call. The only time it stops is when I either make a right turn or when I put my foot on the brake. As soon as the car straightens up and/or I stop braking, it comes back.

I tried to take a video in the car when it occured the other night but when I watched it back, you can't really hear anything. The only other information I can think of that might be useful is that I'm getting static shocks from the bodywork of the offside door when I close it.

I'm completely stumped. I've taken it to a mechanic and he hasn't got a clue either. Any guesses?

Caliper sticking?
Wheel bearing?
Under tray sticking out or something?

Lol at dolphin mating call.

Infact, maybe you have a dolphin in your car calling you?

I had a similar thing and it was one of my brake calipers sticking, after a longish journey feel the wheels to see if one is hotter than the rest

Not that I'm aware of. The power steering seems to stick ever so slightly when turning left from a cold start but that usually sorts itself out within a couple of minutes.
