Hi, I was looking for some advice since I am at my wit's end!

My wife moved my computer last week, and since then, when I turn it on, all the fans and hds work, but CPU fan spins only for a second and stops, no monitor display. My psu was really old, and on its way out, so I bought a formula gold 650w psu, installed that, no difference! I then thought the motherboard had died, so bought a 2nd hand one from eBay, installed that tonight, no difference?!! I bought a motherboard speaker and plugged it in, but it is making no noise.

Do you think it is the CPU? None of the pins are bent. I have cleared the CMOS, breadboarded the motherboard, but no difference.

I was going to upgrade my CPU, motherboard and ram, but then figured I can't sell any of it if I don't know what component has failed!

Thanks for your help!!

Yeah, no beep codes with no ram installed.

I feel like I am doing something stupid, but I have double checked 24pin and CPU 4 pin power cables are attached

How likely is it that the CPU has failed? Do they just give up at some point?

I've seen 2 FX CPUs just die, 2 customer machines had the issue in the past 12 months, CEX has very cheap replacements.

Did you clear CMOS by removing the battery for about 10 minutes? If not, try it. Also try shorting the pins (manual should explain which and how). Sometimes one of these clear CMOS methods works while others don't (when there's a problem).

Thanks for the replies, yes I did clear the CMOS both ways on my original motherboard, no difference. I assume there's no need to try on the replacement one?

If the processor fails, does this stop the CPU fan from spinning?

Sorry, meant to post a follow up to this issue!!

I bought a whole new ryzen setup and installed it in my old case with my new power supply and guess what? Same problem!!! I was panicking that I has toasted the new components. Turns out the issue was with the on/reset/led wiring from my case?! So hopefully this helps someone if they stumble across this thread in the future!

Thanks again for the help :)
