Help Diagnosing Ongoing Networking Issue

Sorry I'm confused. Why does it matter where the router is if the problems I'm having are where the Access Point is? The Access Points are connected to the Router by Ethernet and create their own SSIDs no?

What do they even do if they don't extend your ability to connect to a network?

I've just loaded Ubiquiti's WiFiman app up.

Everything looks ok from the kitchen. Channel 1 is busiest (33% utilisation) at -57dBm. but Channel Health for all 13 on 2.4ghz is Good or Excellent.

The only thing it seems to highlight as a potential issue is the use of Wifi4.

5ghz is at -85dBm and highlighted as poor but that's to be expected since it's coming from the archer upstairs on the other side of the house.

And yes security is WPA2

That’s not good signal for 5Ghz, could it be the devices trying to connect to that then dropping? Ideally you probably want to re-think the setup for better and more consistent coverage if devices are expected to roam between both APs.

The issue is if they're trying to connect via WiFi to for a mesh network (wireless) between the two points, then if the signal is troubled, then the one in the kitchen that's extending the signal from the other side of the house will cut out. I think the other suggestion of trying the Apple TV in the room with the main router or cabling the two points up to make sure there's no issue with the connection should be your primary goal. Once that's been ruled out, you can then track anything else down more easily.

The AP is connected via POE. I've replaced the ethernet cable, it still cuts out. I've replaced the AP, it still cuts out. I've replaced the router, it still cuts out.

And by cuts out, I mean both SSINs from the AP just disappear from all devices for 20-30 seconds.

I literally don't understand.

If you've changed so many things, then the likely remaining factor is interferrence but most likely internal to your house rather than external. Is your kitchen really shiney? Like, lots of chrome and reflective items? Large applicanes?

Yeah, one common denominator not mentioned is PoE.. what is injecting that? Because a 20-30 second blackout sounds awfully like the AP is rebooting.

What else is on your network? Do you use poweline at all?

With any streaming device, I'd hardwire if possible or use a gen6/gen7 unifi access point if you won't hardwire.

I'd avoid channel 13, can get some weird issues on it.

How often does this issue occur?

Connect a device via ethernet to your router. Open 4x CMD windows, on each one type...

ping -t 1.1.1.1
ping -t 192.168.1.1 (or whatever the up up of your router is)
ping -t access point IP
ping -t applet up

Look at the screen when the issue occurs. This will tell you which devices are down.
