Hi all,

I was wondering if I could get a help troubleshooting a pc problem. In the last few days my pc has been cutting out randomly, then restarting, going straight to the bios, crashing again, before starting normally. I took all the components out bar 1 stick of ram and cpu and still crashing. I turned off automatic restarts to see if there was a blue screen, but there aren't any. I installed the gigabyte monitoring software to look at voltages and annoyingly it doesn't keep a record of when it crashes. So I only have data from when it doesn't crash. Not very helpful chart:

I suspect it is the psu giving up? It is 7 years old now, so I should get a new one? I have no other components to test with.

Thanks for your help

PSU if you are lucky, motherboard if not. Since you have taken out all the components it's probably not a loose connection. Try reseating your CPU to make sure that's not it before buying a new PSU.

That cheap PSU has cheap capacitors and it would have been time to replace it couple years ago.
For example motherboard gets stressed already enough by that high power consumption CPU without it needing to worry about who knows what level ripple.

Would consider BitFenix Formula as starting level for good PSU.

For PSU with fully modular cables Seasonic Focus Plus is, besides very competitive pricing, at top level in performance.

Antec Earthwatts Gold Pro is based to same platform with semi-modular cabling.

Before purchasing a new PSU, you could possibly use another PSU if a friend has a spare one?

Keep in mind, if you borrow one make sure its not a cheap branded type
