help dryed coke on gold connector

Its also on my new silent strafe keyboard. Ok to use. I cud hardly get the card out of the pci ex socket. It was dryed in

Wouldn't use surgical spirit personally as it's got castor oil in it and has a bunch of other stuff in it as well as isopropyl alcohol.

I have used vodka in the past as a solvent - it has sugar in it mind you. if you can wait until the shops open tomorrow, you should be able to find somewhere that sells isopropyl.

Yes but I'm talkin about the gold connector on a gfx card. Is tims heat sink cleaner ok. Made by akasa

Thanks

TIM cleaner could potentially be greasy. I've got the akasa stuff somewhere and it sees to be a citrus based degreaser with alxohol.

I think Methylated spirit should be fine as it's de-natured alcohol.

Ok ill hav t wait until tomo now n see if I can find some in morn. I spilt. Well let a ice pop melt which dripped thru my case n all over my card where it ran into the socket. Funny thing tho I switched pc on n it worked say 12 hrs later n has since. Now I got new board n cpu I've jus removed it n it was literally stuck in. Took me ages to pry out. I don't wanna put it into my new board until its lean as might cause trouble.

I've never needed to do it before, but I personally wouldn't use meths on a PCB. I would use isopropyl alcohol if anything and a lint free cloth. Cotton buds will prob snag on anything you wipe them over.

Ok I cleaned it off with meth spirit installed all my new bits, Asus board, 6600k n 3200 ddr4 men. Put the cleaned card in n it works but I've got a problem. Upon trying to install windows, it installs or loads the files but when it says set up is loading windows jus before u can wipe ya drives it gives a bsod. Corrupted hard drive?
Thanks guys

The first bsod was acpi n said board doesn't support it. Told me t press f7 while loading windows. Bios needs update. Anyone got any ideas. If I press f7 I get hd bsod

How have you loaded the install media?

USB or Disk? Would try load the files again, won't be the HDD as you've not touched the HDD by that stage.

EDIT, is windows installed?

Check if the HDD cables are all connected properly and try resetting the BIOS. Or another thing is that some of the substance ran into the PCI-e socket as well and now you have too the card out to clean the substance is covering the contacts in the socket and causing an error as the card is not connected cleanly.

Or you might have been unlucky and shorted something out inside dismantling. But I would try resetting the BIOS first and see if that helps the machine to boot up.

hey guys, im now using my computer, seems the problem was win xp, asa I used win 7 it had no problems, only problem it seemed to install windows to my samsung hard drive rather than one of my ssd`s, so I got windows on a 1tb drive and 2 empty 256mb ssd`s. You think this will make much difference to speed. Also my memory is running at 2133mhz instead of 3200mhz which its advertised. The bios is one of these new ones n im not very confident in it. If I change the memory to 3200mhz, is it locked to the cpu so that will be overclocked?? I know it said something about cache being 3900mhz

Can you just clone the HDD to one of the SSD's?

For the ram enable XMP in your bios and that should give you faster memory
