So, selling my original DS and I really wanted a ds lite.
Hell i still do! Pokemon comes out..sometime!

Yeah, i rally want a DS, but a Wii is tempting. But there'd be no games i'd want for it, none I can see at the moment. And none I can see for a while..

I'm talking myself to a DS, i know. Pointless thread but I'mexpressing my thoguhts!

Help?

I think pointless thread is an understatement. :)
OK, I'm going to be blunt here - don't be a corporate whore!

You want a new DS Lite.
You've been a DS original owner, you like the games and you want the modern version of this classic handheld.
On the otehr hand you've seen adverts for the Wii.
However in your own words you can't see any games available now that you'd want nor any games for the near future you'd want for it...expensive door-stop there mate.
Get your DS Lite now, let the hype surrounding the Wii drop off and pick one up in 6 months time when the price will be the same, supply will be a lot better and maybe there will be some games you want then.

I'd noticed the short supply, local game shop had a fresh shipment in launch day of the wii and the next day they had all sold (marketing plans aye)

I can get one just after christmas anyhoo!

Now, whats the pink lite like? Never seen on in the flesh, tempted to get one. :D
That or a white one. Mmmm
Cheers!

My friends sister tried to get one the other day and found 1 left in the 8th shop they went into, unless of course you want a pink one :D

Is it really worth paying the extra 30-40 quid to "upgrade" from a normal DS to a Lite? I've not seen enough of an improvement to do it myself, and it seems slightly pointless to me, when you could save that money for a Wii/Pokemon/something else entirely.

ditto. If your original DS works, just keeo that AND get a Wii.

I agree. I see absolutely nothing to gain in buying a different model of the same console - they still both do exactly the same thing. Are you really shallow enough to waste so much money?

You obviously don't actually want a Wii, so what would be the point in getting one? If there were games you wanted, then I'd say go for it, absolutely, it's a great machine, but there aren't, and there won't even be any soon, so you would just be throwing money away for a reason I can't even understand.

EDIT: unless you're a girl, in which case I'd understand the "ooh, shiney" perfectly.

the money for it will come from christmas, so I'm not fussed.
And IMO the screen makes the games look amazing!

Walked into a game shop today and they have a biiiig sign "DS IN STOCK NOW" So hey :D Will go have a look on the weekend and buy one I think!

And don't call me shallow, who the hell do you think you are throwing out personal insults to people?

As for the Wii, the only games that interest me are the ones you get with it and wiiplay, no actually "game", apart from rayman really but not enough to warrent nearly 300quid.

I'll "throw" my money away however I feel fit, It is my money afterall?

:/

In answer to the question further up the page.
Yes - it is worth swapping your DS for a DS Lite.
It isn't just a matter of the design of the DS Lite being different (looking a lot better) or the weight difference (it is lighter) or the balance in the hand (it does sit better in the hand).
The screen has had quite a major upgrade.
You do really need to see them side by side, but the difference is quite a lot.
You've also got improved battery life on the Lite.

The original DS's still sell quite well, so you can sell that a pay a quite minimal difference to get a newer version with a vastly superior screen and better battery life - well worth it.

If you don't want to be considered shallow, then you probably shouldn't:

a) Make short ports that do little to establish your reasoning;
b) Be selling a DS purely to buy a slightly smaller, slightly brighter, more expensive version;
c) Tell us that seemingly the only reason you want a Lite is that you saw a big sign in a game shop;
d) Tell us how you want a Wii and yet have no interest in any of the games for it.

Vixen can judge you however she likes, since you've told us something about you by what you've posted. As it is, she's pretty accurate with the "shallow" remark given what you've posted. If you're not actually that shallow in reality, then why would it bother you?

Personal attacks are just low though...

a) Make short ports that do little to establish your reasoning;

Using a forum to discuss something I'm not 100% positive on, knowing people who are either in the same position or have a higher knowledge than me can comment and point me into a direction... shock horror.

b) Be selling a DS purely to buy a slightly smaller, slightly brighter, more expensive version;

A better version, yes. I've been playing the two all week and much preffer the lite.
"slightly brighter", the lite with no backlight on is brighter than the ds with its light on. The image difference is amazing.

c) Tell us that seemingly the only reason you want a Lite is that you saw a big sign in a game shop;

Read what I said, I saw a sign saying they had them in stock. where no other shop I have been to does. Which is a bonus to me as I'd like one before christmas.

d) Tell us how you want a Wii and yet have no interest in any of the games for it.

I have an interest for the "play about with a wiimote" games, but no actually story driven games interest me as of. I still want one though, just not yet. Rather get a controller and use it on my pc.

There was no need to insult me with a personal attack. Plenty of people have replied with decent answers to my situation and helped push me in a direction I feel ok with.

well anyway, Id say get the wii but, id defintely say the lite is a valid upgrade to the original ds. The games look a heck of a lot better, if you sell/trade in the old one its not that much money either.

See that's exactly it Psypher. You provide actually reasoning for stuff, and everything you've said makes a lot more sense. Surely you can see that saying "Hey guys should I get a Wii even though I don't like the games" and "I'm selling my DS to buy a DS lite" come across as fairly fickle when that's all that's said?

Probably because he feels it is an unjustified insult. :confused:
My word, an unjustified insult on the internet? The horror!

Holy crap people. :eek:

Anyway I work part time at Argos to get some quick cash in and a 10% discount. I work in the back and a college was on the computer reserving stuff. Asked him to reserve me a DS lite black. After work I part with my cash. Go home. Open up the box... DS old skool... sweet.........

So anyway I go back and they tell me I cant get my cash back. Its exempt from the 14 day money back guaranty. As you could have guessed I argued with them that this was not the product I wanted (he reserved a DS old skool) so I got my money back. It's only going to take 5 days for the cash to come back on my card though. :(

Anyway I can't find a Black lite anywhere. Disappointed really. I understand they must be selling but the lites have been out for a while. would have though Ninty would be shipping lots of these out.
