help - dying hard drive?

Sometimes vista stops responding and the hard drive busy light on the case is stuck on (no hard drive clicking noises like they are busy).

A good thump to the case usually fixes it, but if not I have to restart, then the same thing happens on boot up but it gets a bit further each time before it gets stuck (so 3 or 4 restarts before it gets fully booted).

I have a 450w good brand psu with 5 hard drives and an 8800 - Could it be that?

I assume the main hard drive is on its way out but thought I would ask first.

I'd check all connections to the HDD's if a knock sorts it. Then run scandisk.

Sounds like a dying drive to me, backup as soon as possible. Popping them in the freezer for 24 hours can bring a dead drive back to life, temporary though.

Have you checked the SMART status of the drive?

Speedfan can do that (it's free).

My cousin tried the thump to the case and would u know it, it stoped working and gave it me to fix it and it turns out the motherboard had gone
