Hi guys

Haven't been on here a while as my PC hasn't needed anything doing.

I have, however, just built a friend a PC spec'd as below:

-E8400 (stock speed)
-Arctic Freezer
-Abit IP35P MOBO
-4 gig Crucial ram
-ATI Radeo Hd4670
-Several HDs and DVDRW!
-Coolermaster case + 120mm fans + 480w PSU

Anyway, built the pc without issues (I have built loads).

On boot up, checking the bios it showed the CPU as 98oC (10 seconds in)

I shut down the machine and checked that the cooler was seated properly and it appears to be - TIM etc melted and cooler is firmly seated.

Any ideas? Tried a bios flash and the PC is running ok but haven't 'stress tested it'

Hasn't moved from 98oc despite running it a while?

Cheers!!

Yup, sounds like a knackered temp sensor. How hot is the HSF to touch? If it was 98 degrees it would be roasting.

Get an OS on there, load up Realtemp and calibrate it. Install Speedfan and check the CPU socket temps, ignore the on chip diode temps.

I've got an e8400 that reads 45 degrees idle here with an AC7Pro on it, they're renouned for having terrible temp readings - Intel have even acknowledged it.

HSF is cold!!

Vista is installed (I'm on the PC now)

I'll try Realtemp.... and speedfan...! I'll report what happens. Abit EQ is flashing....

:) I dont blame you for panicking, if i saw those temp's at boot i'd think someone had started a bonfire on my northbridge.

When I first booted up my 8400 with Freezer 7 Pro on an Asus P5Q Pro, I got only 18C in BIOS. I dunno whether it was because I was booting it up first time, or the sensor was playing up a bit. Eventually after a day or two, it's now reading 'normal' temps of 30-32C.
