Ok yesterday all 3 computers have gone down! i know very very bad luck! the two laptops are getting sorted im on one of them now and the one lappy is going back to the shop to get sorted but these are not my concern!

yesterday i was on my pc as usual and it was working fine then i went out for abit and when i came back it would not start, and i looked in the case and it was filthy as anything u could imagine, so i cleaned it all out and carefully vaccumed the case and componants. When i went to turn it back on it was dead! the fan on the PSU (hiper 620W, i know its poo) was still spining but no life, so i used my back up antec 550W and LIFE but there is a big noise and its constant, also the screen does not display any pic as the pc is not displying anthing, what could this be?????

has the mobo died........has the gfx died........help me

cheers

Have you checked the fuse in the power cable?

I had a cable go twice in the space of a month and immediately thought the worst, but it was infact the fuse in the plug socket.

yes i have checked the fuse and i also have a spare cord and it is still making the same noise, its the internal speaker making the noise just a constant sound and the screen is still blanc :(

so i cleaned it all out and carefully vaccumed the case and componants.

Oh. I've always been told that vacuuming the insides of your computer is a bad plan because it ionises the air which creates a charge and can knacker electronics.

I've always done it, for years. I use the brush nozel and use it very lightly never had any problems. Of course if you were to press hard on part it might pull off capacitors etc, you just have to be careful - like most things. I would rather have it clean of dust than clogged up and possibly cause heat and operational problems.

hi thanx for the replies, well ive vaccumed pcs b4 and neva had ne probs, i was careful wen i cleaned it as usual, i built the system myself all those yrs ago and i know it needs an update but i aint got the cash yet lol but i cannot find out why the speaker in the case is making a noise, its a beep from the speaker, not beep, beep, beep, but jus beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee..............etc etc u get my point lol

I might be off but isn't the long constant beep usually memory related? If I remember correctly one long continuous beep is usually mem related. They say try switching sticks ie put the bank 3 in the bank one etc and also try booting with just one stick and then the other. From what I am reading one long beep or a long constant "ringing" type beep is also memory or motherboard.

Again I am no expert just going off what I remember as well as a quick google.

ive looked and tried all diferent things with the memory and nothing is working, been looking on the net adn cant find any solutions :( is it time for defeat and upgrade with my worst enamy "MR Credit Card" or carry on tryin???

im sure ive heard that long beep before, and im sure it was on a dead mobo........might wanna try that power supply on a friends pc if possible to be sure.

ITS ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!
i absolutly have no idea what i did lol i found out that a long continuous beep means sumat to do with memory, RAM or gfx so i took them out cleaned them and bish bash bosh it worked lol thank you so much for all your help guys, another job well done :)

but i can confirm my old psu is DEAD lol so long Hiper PSU.

Sometimes can be a bit of dust lodged between the expansion slot and the module of RAM. Glad things are up and running and yeah, not suprised to see the Hiper is dead!

hey the hiper lasted longer than i thought lol but it just went with no warning, but the box n extra cords that it came with will come in handy lol and it mite of been a bit of dust curse the dust!

what do you think of this set up? i have already got a cheiftech dragon case, 4 fans, dvd drive, keyboard and mice and 19" tft which i dont need to change!

Looks ok except. No need for so much power behind the PSU, and I would opt for a HD 4870 over a GTX 280 as the performance is very much equal but for so much less. Check out the reviews on google :)

Aim for something between 550-650W.

Personal preference would make me choose Samsung HDD over the WD. They are super fast.

but would the psu b able to hack to hard drives, dvd drive, 4 fans and gfx card n mobo???? also ive neva been a fan of ATI plus im mainly playin games and crysis is sumat i wana get cus i played it at me m8s and OMG its brill lol so i want sumat thats gona do me justice!

I have a 550W Antec True Power Trio and I'm running the following:

E6600 2.4GHz (Overclocked to 3.5GHz)
2GB GeIL DDR2
1x WD 160GB SATAII HDD
Powercolor HD 4870
3x Noctua S12 120mm Case fans
2x Yate Loon 120mm Case fans

I've got a few other things I've probably missed out too, I'm adding a soundcard tomorrow. So with an overclock plus all the hardware It deals fine. You just have to make sure the PSU you get is reliable and strong which most on the market are at the moment. There are certain brands that you should go for out of the pick though. 750W is overkill for a system like you want. I've known people with 400W PSU's to run a HD 4870 system, I think thats probably at the very limit but as I said, 550-650 will be more than enough for you.
