Help finding laptop with RS-232!!

Can anyone help. I need for work, 2 laptops that have RS-232 (serial port) connectors built in. I realise that their like the preverbial rocking horse doo doo.

Anyone know?, budget is upto £600 each and must be XP NOT vista.

i dont know of any brand new ones , but theres plenty of older ones on auction sites

Some of the Dell Latitudes have them.

You can get USB to Rs-232 adaptors if you need to .

we were in the same boat last year, needed 2 laptops that had to have serial ports on, tried usb to serial adapters but were told they could corrupt the data when transfering, went with dells in the end, cost twice as much as something else identical spec wise without the serial ports, but when needs must, glad you got sorted

Yeah thats the thing, USB to serials are too dodgy for what we use them for, mission critical communications!

Ordered 2 of the dell latitudes this morning, cheers for the advise.

I was just going to post that we buy Dell latitude 531s which also have a pcmcia port for less than £500

I understand your dilema i had the same problem but i managed to find one i have put below the model which i bought and its really good.

Its a Samsung and u can buy this from Overclockers if you ask Gibbo nicely to source it for you....

If we have to, we use Quatech 8 port serial USB hubs, expensive but very good. We use these for marine surveys.
