Ok, I have an old Antec 1200 that I am using as my storage. I've mounted 2 HDD's but I have run out of the "long" Antec mounting screws. They are a total of 25mm long and pass through the cage. Now I have contacted Antec and they want £15 for 12 screws (not delivered) !!! I have been to all the local shops to try and source but NOBODY can come close to it. I mean I have been to dedicated iron mongers, electrical stores, computer stores including Overclockers and of course fleabay etc and have had no luck .. has anybody out there got any that they might want to part with? They are NOT M2.5 nor 6/32 screws and they have a coarse thread not a fine thread as found on brass screws ..

That coarse thread is 6-32.
Because that's what HDDs have.
If not finding exactly that long screws it's likely possible to shorten longer screws.

I don't think Antec would make a bespoke screw just for the HDD .. but where the heck they get them from is beyond me .. yes I could cut them down to size I suppose .. just don't have anything to do it ..

If the OP could post more specifics, i could likely narrow it down to something that matches spec and could be picked up for a few quid off that rainforest place.

Pretty sure 6-32 UNC is correct for anything screwing directly into a hard drive(that's what HDD specs call for), as EsaT posted, but i can understand why that may seem off if you're measuring them yourself(M3 will seem closer, but M3.5 is correct).

When i was looking for some screws for my waterblock as EK hadn't sent me enough, I found them at Maplins.
It was a mixed box of various screws but they did the job.
Think the whole box of 100 odd screws cost me £6 or £7

You're buying from china indirectly anyway(largely, they're a huge global supplier), there is plenty of UK supply(from China) available if you know what you need.

Or save yourself a fiver and use your measuring tape, we're metric you lazy bozos, it can't get any easier.

I must be really lazy, I have two! On the other hand you can't go wrong with a size guage, whereas getting the wrong thread, thereby sticking the wrong bolt into something and stripping the thread - that'll normally cost more than a fiver to rectify.

Wow this is an old one .. yes i trolled the internet and i bought a whole bunch from fleabay .. maplins didnt stock them nor screfix and a bunch of other screw/bolt suppliers .. go back through this post for the size then have a search for them .. way cheaper and you get more of them

Hey Timbo2410,
I am pretty sure they are 6-32 UNC coarse thread 25mm
I have since found out that the ferrules in 2.5” and 3.5” drives are metric and English respectively (mm & inches)
I need x4 but want x12 or even x30
I have seen theses —>

They are 30mm but I can trim them down to 25mm or spacer them
What I don’t want to do is keep buying stuff that isn’t right
Initially, I bought a 2.5” to 3.5” adapter
If I have bought a 2.5” to 5.25” adapter, it could have fitted directly in my 5.25 bay
Arghhhh!
I know it is a long shot, but can you find any details of what you bought?
I’ll have another read through the old post
Thanks in advance!

Bought some ... Countersunk Hex 6-32 UNC (Coarse thread)

Well they "fit" ... If i had a 3.5" HDD!!!
The screws would have fitted a treat

Unfortunately, I have a 2.5" SSD ... fitted to an adaptor ... that converts it to 3.5" wide
Therefore, the screws that I need STILL need to fit the SSD ... M3 screws!!!

25mm M3!!! not 25mm 6-32 UNC

I have sourced x4 30mm M3 screws and I have fitted the SSD into the 3.5" cage
I wanted 25mm but was concerned that the head would fall through the opening
Buying 30mm long screws gave me the option to washers them oit ot trim the end off
As it happens, the extra length is taken up "inside the adaptor"
If anyone wants photos - please message me

Bit of a learning curve so say the least

If anyone is interested ...

2.5" drives use M3 screws - 3mm diameter ... Length is dependant but usually very short
3.5" drives use 6-32 UNC (Coarse thread) screws... Length is dependant but usually very short

Antec900 HDD cage ...
... Screws need to be 25mm long
2.5" ... M3
3.5" ... 6-32 UNC

Then the unbelievable happened!

I popped into my garage to look for some washers and in my "computer screws that are kicking around jar" ... I found x20 25mm 6-32 UNC
Yes ... the ones that ************ / Antec supplied me when I bought the machine and I put them somewhere safe!

Good grief ... I said!

Thanks to everyone that helped
:-)
