Hey all,
I'm tired of the issues that have plagued my pc since I bought it. It's an Asus Crosshair II Formula with an AMD Phenom X4 940 CPU.

So.... I want to get this basket, but just can't make up my mind about the PSU. 750v850w. I know it's good to have more power but if it's really not needed then I don't want to just waste it. Ofc this is the OcUK overclock bundle so... I won't push the overclock more than what OcUK setup for me and won't play around with the settings much once I get it home.

The system:
Krypton i7 930 @ 4GHz OC'd bundle - 384.23
Corsair H50 Cooler - 59.98 (prefer the Prolimatech Megahalems but not an option)
Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R Motherboard - 150.98
2x Gigabyte GTX 460 OC 1024 - 176.24 (352.48)
OCZ Vertex 2E 60GB SSD - 124.98
CM Storm Sniper - 114.99 (I have the HAF 932 next to me and love it)
Windows 7 Professional 64-bit - 109.99
Samsung S223L/RSMN 22x DVD RW SATA - 12.98
Subtotal 1310.61
------
Corsair AX850 PSU - 146.86 (1457.47)
or
Corsair HX 750W PSU - 118.99 (1429.6)

I'm open to changing anything and if I order this from OcUK can I have them build the pc for me too?

Cheers,
Matt

it would be silly to get that gear and skimp on the psu, get the 850w and be done with it, at least when the time comes to change the gtx 460's u have the psu power to do so.

the only things i would change about the build is the case and motherboard, much prefer the haf-x for the cooling, and the p6x58d-e for the looks and i gather its all around better than the gigabyte one? i could be wrong on that bit.overall its looking amazing mate :) the only problem i can see if u running out of hdd space on the sdd, i think for £140 u can get a 90gb vertex.

*edit*

just saw the gtx 460 sli smokes the gtx 480, how about 2x gtx 465?2x Point Of View GeForce GTX 465 1024MB works out at £358 or 2x of the palit 2048MB cards for £391? £40 for an extra 1GB of video ram? hmm mighty tempting.

You could ask them, for the price of those components, they probably could help you.

I wouldn't change anything. Looks great. :D

The Corsair AX are more efficient and higher quality.

More thoughts

Thanks for the replies so far.
I looked into the 2GB option but it's only maybe better at 2056x1600 res and higher. I'm running at 1900x1200.
Found 1 review of this to show how the 2GB compares (http://en.expreview.com/2010/08/08/exclusive-review-of-zotac-geforce-gtx-460-2gb-edition/9041.html/9)
Although I've had Antec PSU's in the past I can't see the benefit of the True Power over the Corsair models, including reading reviews online.
I've started tinkering around a little bit and realized that the Crucial 64GB SSD is perfect for what I need as my OS drive and would rather have it than the 60GB Vertex 2E.
Then I thought what if I drop the OC bundle and just pick the components separately.
By doing that I could get 2x470 GTX for the same price as the OC bundle.
In other words if I'm not lazy and do the OC myself I could have much more powerful cards.
Having said that though I'd prefer a cooler quieter running system and not sure I'm up for 2x470's.
If I stick with the 2x 460s I'll get the 750 HX PSU if I go with 2x 470s I'll go with the AX850.
I am running dual 24" Dell 2407 WFP monitors at 1900x1200 but would only game on one...

Any feedback on the 460s v 470s option and the Crucial SSD is new to me though I already have the original OCZ Vertex cards so would like to try something different and like the Sata 3 connection.

the main advantage of the Antec is that's its cheaper for essentially the same psu, both the corsair HX and Antec are made by seasonic, one of the best OEM manufactures.

Thanks for the tip - can save me a bit more cash!
Think I could get away with the Antec 750 with 2x 470s? Tom's Hardware did with a Silverstone PSU in their review...

lots of heat from 2 470's, thats why i reccomended the haf-x as it had a special gpu duct where u add in a 120mm to blow into the gap between the sli setup and it also helps support both cards weight as well with anoher bracket(you can use both if you turn the angle of the side fan protector.with that case fully kitted out u have 2x top 200mm(200cmf) a front and side 200mm (another 200cmf) and with the rear 120mm as an intake for the h50-1 you get positive air pressure which again works to keep dust out of the system instead of most cases way of just sucking it in.thats not forgetting the 120mm blowing into the gfx internally, thats a heck of a lot of air flow going around a case 400cmf? crazy no wonder it has the best temps out there in reviews.

id still read a proper review of the haf-x and re consider.also all i7's will do the same 4.00ghz so i would save the money and perhaps get a single gtx 480 with the view to adding in another when prices fall.

i still think ur nuts going for the 750w over the 850w for what £30? u may not use that power now but you seem a nvidia fan so id for sure like to have a psu capable of powering whatever direct x 12 beast they come out with !

i also read the same review on the 2GB palit gtx 460, i wasnt impressed, 14% at 2560x1200 wasnt bad, just make sure it wont give the same benifit if using 2x 1080p screens which i see you are.ill swear it does, or someone said it did or perhaps they just meant eyefinity, deffo do some more reading and dont rush into things as this pc has to last for you im sure like the rest of us mortals.
