My friend has had a few viruses on his laptop over the lat 3 weeks so he asked me to fix it. I removed all viruses etc and got it running normally but really slow, so i backed it up and ran the Recovery manager gone through it and clicked set to factory settings. As it started it has came up with Error 1002. Internet says it is a hard drive corruption error and typical in HP laptops. does this mean i cant get it to run like it was and the pc is wiped with no OP system on it ? If i buy a windows vista disk will it reinstall windows and the drivers or just windows ? or can i download drivers from internet ?

p.s. Laptop is a HP G500.

Either you haven't removed all the viruses (likely), or the hard drive is faulty. Reinstalling windows onto a faulty hard drive wont help, but it generally does remove viruses.

HP laptops are certainly not more prone to hard drive failures than other types of laptop.

If it has an OEM number on the bottom I suppose you could borrow an OEM version of vista and install using that particular key. Might be a bit hit and miss though, and those kind of jobs never run smoothly.

Once you have done a format / reinstall you'll probably have to download a couple of drivers yes.
