Hi guys,

Thought I would update my bios from f10 to the f12 beta with @BIOS.

Did as normal but now when I try to boot I get a black screen saying.

"Windows cannot start.......

File \Windows\System32\Winload.exe

Status: 0xc000000f

Info: The selected entry couldnt not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt."

Im not sure what I have done, but somthing has gone wrong.

It says to insert xp disk and repair so I did this. On the blue screen pressed "R" for repair installation, I am then greeted by a black dos like screen, saying select windows installtion file or drive or somthing silimar. Have to press 1. then enter, then it asks me for the administration password..I have no idea what this is? Or if this is even the right way to go about fixing my problem?

Any helps guys? Also if it helps, I have conected the drive up to my other pcs mobo and psu. So I can access it I hope, if I can change the file this way? I was primarily doing it to see if I could back up my important data..

Thanks for any info/assistance!!!

Ben.

Flashing your BIOS won't alter any files in your Windows installation.
Look at BIOS settings to see if everything is configured correctly for the hard drives, SATA setup e.t.c.

I would suggest some kind of boot priority problem after the BIOS flash. Just go through everything, make sure the right disks are in the right order, clear the BIOS possibly as IAmATeaf suggeted even if you have already, and see what happens.

Logging into the recovery console and doing

bootrec.exe /fixmbr
bootrec.exe /fixboot

will probably fix it.

*Edit*

Just noticed you said XP CD, in which case you should just run

FIXBOOT
FIXMBR

then it asks me for the administration password..I have no idea what this is?

If you haven't set up a password then just press enter when it asks for one.

But follow the other advice first because most likely it's a BIOS setting that needs adjusting.

Just in case it is the actual BIOS which is not working properly, you did backup the old one first right? ;)

What sort of motherboard?

Sounds to me like the BIOS was configured so the SATA controller was set to emulate IDE, the setting was probably wiped when you flashed the BIOS. You should just be able to re enable it.

I fail to see how a bios setting would corrupt his files though, surely the hard drive would just not appear?

It hasn't. Suspect he has more than one drive in the system and the bootloader is getting confused when looking for the existing Window(s) installation(s).

Heh I had this problem when I woke up this morning lol, but it wasn't from a bios flash.

Somehow my sata plug came off the motherboard!! while I was sleeping may I add! :( Surprised it didn't kill the drive :/

Ascendancy is right in the way he's saying repair, but are all your drives in the right boot order?
