Hi there,

I attempted to overclock my cpu recently (i7 860), but don't really have the knowledge, i've read up on many 'beginners' guides but the main problem with them seems to be that they are all about 7-8 years old, on the most part they seem to still be relevant, however when trying to apply what they say i seem to get a lot of 'Overclock has failed'.

Firstly i'm running:
CPU: i7 860, 2.8ghz
Motherboard: ASUS P7H55D-M EVO
Memory: Corsair 4GB (2x2GB) 1600Mhz
GPU: Gigabyte 5770 1GB

To start off with, i noticed that the BLCK was running at 133, with a multiplier of 22 as standard. So i changed this 160 BLCK with a multiplier of 16 to start off with, this worked fine. After that i tried to raise the BLCK higher by just 1 and it would fail to boot. I've got a feeling this is to do with the limit of the memory, but i don't know how this is calculated, as in all the guides i've read i've never seen DDR3 referenced. I'm guessing the multiplier of the memory has something to do with this, but i literally can't find a single option in my bios to change this. At current i've left the cpu multiplier at 20, which is stable.

To summarise what i really need help with is:
1) Are there any guides that have been recently done in how to overclock your system.
2) Are the calculations different for working out how to reach the speed that the ram will be running at (i am literally completely lost with calculations to do with memory, i've read some huge guide (this one) and still cannot work out how to go past 160 BLCK :S)
3) Hopefully i'm not fighting a lost cause and i've got some bad motherboard where i can't alter the memory multiplier.

Thanks for any help in advance.
