A mate of mine purchased an 8800GS for his new PC from a competator website (Note: he lives long way away so you guys are not an option), the card was Asus and pre-OC'd .. heres the problem.

Its freezing his PC Up after ~ 40 seconds in 3d apps, Using rivatuner if he sets all the clocks back to factory default its stable for some 5 mins, but then for some reason the cards clocks get set back to the OC'd values automatically and ofc system crashes.

Sounds like return/refund time , just checing you guys have no other ideas.

Well he uninstalled Windows XP 64 and installed Vista 64, new message reads: "The display driver has stopped responding and has recovered" and then system freezes some seconds later.

Ideas?

Sorry for bumping this (spamming and all), but its fixed so ill post all we had to do here incase someone else has an issue (unlikely but u never know).

Board has 3 options for PCI-E Mode, 1.0 1.0a and 2.0, setting the board to any of the 3 settings with my spare 8800GTS Card and its all fine, setting it to 1.0 with the 8800GS and its fine too, setting it to 1.0a or 2.0 with the 8800GS and we get the crashing problem..

So, seems 8800GS' only likes the old PCI-E Revision.
