Hey everyone

Me and a few guys from college have been trying to tease one of our friends to switch to pc gaming as we all agree console gaming is pretty ****.
For the last few months he has been sticking to his guns and standing by his Xbox but as so many of us have switched he has finally given in and seen the light.

He doesn't have allot of money to splash out on but wants a new build that will be able to play bf3 when it is released in October.
He has already picked out the CPU he wants i was just wondering if someone can spec him a half decent mobo to go with it and some ram also.
I think 6gb would be plenty, and if possible triple channel.

AMD Athlon II X4 Quad Core 640 3.00GHz

Thanks in advance

Triple channel is ideally used for Intel I7 9xx series CPUs as these have triple channel controler.

What's your friends budget and does he requires windows and monitor.

His actual overall budget is important.

Plus if it's for mainly gaming then dual channel/triple channel is irrelevent - unless his uni work would benefit from a larger bandwidth?

I suspect you'll be kitted out with a 2500K - budget permitting - but from your initial choice of CPU it may be his budget is a lot less...

Hey thanks for the replies, i think if possible he would like to spend £250 or less on both CPU, and mobo and ram which i realize is not allot. The cpu i linked above is what he has his eyes on but not concrete just yet, i told him i would ask the experts here for suggestions before he made up his mind.He will be using case from his old PC along with his old hdd but i think he may need a gpu, ssd(for os), and psu which he will buy separate each month. He already has win 7 64, peripherals and monitor.

Thanks again

Should be a lot better than the AMD:

like to spend £250 or less on both CPU, and mobo and ram

Well if you bought him the below spec (and he paid you back) so that you got free postage it would cost - £237

Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (clockable to ~4Ghz with a stock cooler)
MSI P67A-C45 Intel P67
Corsair XMS3 4GB

This would be a great foundation for adding future bits for under £250
