A Friend of mine has about £500 to spend on a system for Uni.

Monitor is optional.

Will be used for a lot of movie / photo editing.
The odd game.

Advice ?
Was thinking along the lines of at least a core 2 with 4 GB ram.

quad core for if a lot of encoding is needed esp video editing.
only 2gb of ram though.
