Hey all.

I am weighing up options for a desktop to do audio processing (and image processing). I will probably be running multi-track programmes and Re-wire devices etc etc... My laptop (an old 5051 Acer... shamefully underpowered cannot handle this).

I use Sonar 8, Reason, Cubase, Sibelius, Garritan and Synth libraries etc... I use a Tascam 1641 USB2 sound card.

Now I am still thinking of getting a 13" Mac book pro, but that is if I go mental and can't control myself... and they allow me to buy through finance. The more likely option is that I buy/build a tower - with the obvious advantage that I could still buy a laptop as well and spend the same as for a mac...

Firstly I have seen this tower, and it seems quite good for the cash:

Advent SQ-9204

I would obviously buy a 750GB or 1TB drive to fit in this.

Anyway, I have a 22" Acer screen, and am not totally into gaming, so a graphics card and monitor are surplus to requirements at this stage. I am aiming to keep the build to £400. My thoughts:

Core 2 Quad Q8300, 4GB DDR2 (worth going for DDR3?), 2 SATA drives oif minimum 500GB.

Cheers for any help in advance!
Mike

if you could find out the mobo of that pc, it might be worth getting, if the mobo lets you upgrade that is
the reason is, is its quite cheap and the warranty you get ;)
