Hi guys! I'm having a nightmare here.

I've recently used Mac Disk Utility to restore my 'broken' hard drive, 'broken' according to Windows that is.
It's a 640GB WD Green in a USB SATA caddy and I've had it working just fine.

I want to partition it so that it's got 220GB in Mac format to backup my Macbook Pro and reset it to factory, then the rest I want in NTFS for Windows.

What I'm trying to do is format it in Disk Utility to do the 220GB Mac partition and leave the second partition as Free Space, so when I plug it into Windows it will recognise the Free Space and I can format it as NTFS.
That's the theory anyway.

But it's not working, Disk Utility keeps saying 'File Format Error' or something similar.. am I missing something? I have it set to Master Boot Record to be Windows-compatible, is this my mistake? Can MBR not work with Mac partitions?

Thanks!

i tried mac drive to split a drive in mac os extended and ntfs, but it didnt play dice....

only one way or another sadly, but someone may know better... but dont think its possible
