Dads current spec:

XP2400+
NForce2 mobo
Ti4200 64Mb
768Mb PC2100 RAM

Hes complaining its too slow, he dosent play many games, mainly COD1 and COD2 in DX7 mode, which the Ti4200 does quite well, so the gfx will do for now.

Looking to get a new mobo and CPU for him.

I was thinking a socket 754 sempron would do him but theres no 754 mobos on ocuk anymore.

So now im thinking of asrock dual so he can use his ti4200 and an athlon64 3000+

Would this be much better than what he has now. And should i skip the asrock and get an asus board with built in GF6100 gfx?

Will the buikt in 6100 be any better than the ti4200?

Man, if your gonna update the comp, you might as well get new stuff.

Basically, the stuff your after is old and is actually more costly than its worth, it makes more sense financially to get him a newer more modern comp. as those parts are just as cheap.

Also, post how much you want to spend as money is generally the driving force of deciding what to get in upgrading.

Well he wants to spend as little as possible. The 3000+ and the 6100 mobo come in at just over £100. All hes gonna ( well me i guess ) spend is the difference between the cost of the new stuff and what he gets from the sale of the old stuff which i will post on MM shortly.

Onboard 6150 is pants, I wouldn't bother with it unless purely for Windows GUI and videos. HL2 is supposed to scale well....well it's unplayable at low rez and low detail.

You're looking at a complete new system, CPU, memory, motherboard and graphics card. Don't bother with 41xx. Look at a 6800 at very least.

You can google and find varous reviews about the GeForce 6150

This chip will run old game but is poorly cooled and this would create stabilty problems

It is more for genral windows use on large screens.

Regarding vista the following specs are required

A Windows Vista Premium Ready PC includes at least:

* 1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor1.
* 1 GB of system memory.
* A graphics processor that runs Windows Aero2.
* 128 MB of graphics memory.
* 40 GB of hard drive capacity with 15 GB free space.
* DVD-ROM Drive3.
* Audio output capability.
* Internet access capability.

So ideally you should have a 128MB graphics card. I don't think internal graphics have this, if somebody could help clear this up it would benfit me and possibly MeatLoaf's dad (lol).
