Western Digital 500GB drive went funny the other night so i've been getting all ym data back from it.

Managed to get most things i wanted, well nearly everything, including all of my photographs of the past 2-3years.

At the moment i cant test the films/mp3s due to the pc having no decent media player with codecs. So i am assuming they will work as their dimensions and duration appear which is always a good sign.

However some of my photos dont open, well around 2/3 of them which is really annoying as they include holiday snaps and birthday pictures.

I tried getdataback for NTFS and this is what got alof of the data back, I used the same program last year when it happend on my old 250GB drive.

Does anyone know of any other good programs i could try to get the photos back with or will they be corrupt if getdataback can't get them to work?

Any help much apprecaited as its really annoying losing a lot of photos!

well after having some time to look through things its worse :(

Films and MP3s so far are ok, but all my RAR files aswell as most of my photo's wont open :/

lol you think 2 hard disks in a year is bad?

lets see whats gone wrong that i can remember since starting uni about 16months ago.

250GB died, 500GB died, 500GB corrupted, motherboard melted, 2 CPUs dont work, RAM and motherboard taken out by PSU. Another few hard drives died, all maxtor around 80GB, and prob few more things!

One of the reasons i got a macbook pro, i swear bill gates has it in for me, taken me over 2 weeks jsut to get a socket A system that works, gone through 3 motherboards, 3 CPUs and 2 sets of ram :/

I tried a rar recover program but it didnt do anything, jsut said it cudnt get stuff back, most of the folders within the RAR are pictures so I thought it might :/
Might go through getdataback again and see what happens

thanks a lot ill look into that now :)

If i wanted to RAID the 500GB do i have to get the exact same drive with similar S/N on it, or can i jsut buy another WD 500GB same model number?

Thanks
