Am still very clueless with the latest gfx cards the last one I bought was a 8800gts 512 so am struggling to find out whats a good card and whats not with out spending to many ££. Anyway I was offered a HIS Radeon HD 6870 1 GB for £75 and just wanted to Know if it was worth getting or just keep saving and get something like a http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-312-SP or something different. I would like to set there playing a game and thing this looks great

Rest of system spec?
The new card is a lot faster, but if your CPU etc would be the limiting factor the 6870 might give you the boost you're looking for without creating such a large bottleneck.

A happy medium would be a second hand 7850, they're currently going for about £100-£120.

Oh, wasn't expecting an uptodate system :D
You can choose anycard, the only bottleneck would be the GPU itself.

What is your £budget? The XT 7870s are decent, but for £40 more you can get yourself a fully fledged 7950 and they're worth the extra in all fairness.

£240 - 7950

*B-Grade* £130 - 7850

A 6870 is still a perfectly capable card however, and for £75 isn't too badly priced, it's comparable to a 7770 - £90 - 7770

At the moment Its £100 but am happy to wait and just keep saving to get a better card I just wasn't sure if it was worth getting and save a few quid towards a new case or just keep saving and get the better card

Sorry dude but if a 6870 is a bottlenecked, how is spending £50 more on a more powerful card a happy medium? Just curious how you come about that logic :)

I'd expect he means because it's a similar amount of money, but is faster so will benefit from future upgrades, whereas a 6870 wouldn't.

Essentially, the more a GPU is bottlenecked, the more benefit a future upgrade will bring.
