ok, so ive been at 3.6 for a while, fully stable, but when i try getting to 3.7, i cant run prime for 5 minutes without getting a problem

IMG_4610.jpg

so my questions,
im using a cpu ratio of 19, should i set this lower/higher?
The cpu voltage is 1.35, how high should i go? 1.4v seemed to last for about 10 minutes im prime
a small part im fairly confused about, is the last section of the pic, should i change any of that? it says it will improve my BCLK frequenct overclock, but which one?
Edit: not an D0 chip, C0
Thank you!

AFAIK raising the CPU PLL from default makes little difference and is dangerous.

Maybe try slackening memory timings they're quite aggressive.

As long as the RAM is not causing any issues now you don't need to reduce the timings as long as you set up an appropriate divider.

However if I were you I'd overclock things one at a time. So achieve the best you want on the CPU first, then overclock the RAM to where you want it to be (or as close as possible).

Make sure you test the stability when appropriate. I find the Intel Burn Test far more effective than OCCT or Prime. The burn test crashed a previous OC in 20 mins, something 18 hours of prime failed to do.

interesting, so intel burn test works in the same way Prime does? so i should leave it on four 8+ hours to see if i have a successful oc

might leave the ram atm, still not too sure over oc'ing ram

just ran intel burn test, and it finished at normal in a couple of minutes..this normal? - trying maximum now

edit - just failed maximum, putting the cpu voltages higher than 1.4 good idea? or is it something else

It works differently from Prime. I don't know exactly what it does, but I've noticed that instead of putting all cores at 100% which is what Prime does, the cpu usage % jumps up and down a lot.

Anyways my settings were 20 runs, maximum stress and output log or something to do with checking accuracy.

I noticed the new version has a proper GUI now and I can't remember what options I generally chose on the CLI version.

thanks, so far so good on maximum, probably jinxed it now :p
will try again tomorrow for 20 runs, atm its just 5

put the voltages to
cpu = 1.412
Dram = 1.38

edit - everythings fine so far, but im a little worried, would have never got this far with prime.. & should i leave thread on auto or 8?

intel burn test runs fine at maximum, and times to run at 15, but in prime it fails
any ideas? not sure which one to go by

I would slack those timeings on the mem if your going for 4Ghz just to rule them out. set them to 8-8-8-24 and as said use a low divider so your underclocking the ram. I used 6 divider when i was tesing then raised it to 8 when i was finished. 1.4 vcore? is it D0 or C0 chip

well, im not aiming for 4ghz, just something higher than 3.6, but id be chuffed if i did manage 4ghz
its a C0 chip
uhm, i cant find where to set the memory divider..

Ah will explain the high vcore, If your using 190 BLCK you should be fine as the ram will prob run 1520mhz on auto. just set them 8-8-8-24 for now, you can tighten them when cpu is stable.

Hmmm...

I have also got issues with the speed and also with the heat this i7 920 is outputting.

These are the OC specs @ 3.66:

Blck: 183
Multiplier: 20
CPU core voltage: 1.30
QPI voltage: 1.30
CPU PLL: 1.88
Mem: 1523MHz (something along those lines, its 1066MHz but OC with 183 Blck)
Uncore: x16
DRAM voltage: 1.66

Load-line: Enabled
CPU amplitude: 800mv
CPU spread spectrum: Disabled
PCI-e spread spectrum: Disabled

I think that's most of the important stuff, if I've missed anything else that might give more clues, let me know.

ATM, I am running Prime95@81,80,81,78. It seems to be stable but I'm not massively happy with the temps tbh, especially with only running at 1.30v. Lowering the core voltage below 1.30v causes a BSOD within 5-10 mins @ 3.66GHz.

Am I missing something here? I have re-applied AS5 twice and the temps are pretty much identical to each other.

I am using an Akasa Nero 967 Heatsink with the provided fan.

I am at my wits end, I have been tweaking for days to try and get a good temp, 3.66GHz is plenty enough but at 81c, it's HOT!! Going above 3.66GHz requires atleast 1.35v on core to POST but temps get ridiculously hot at say 3.8GHz and isn't even fully stable.

Ambient temp for the room is roughly 23c, and I am using a C0/C1 revision chip.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

hmm thanks, think ill stick to cpu oc'ing atm

out of curiousity, should i be going by the results from intel burn test or prime
atm, intel burn test is running fine, but prime fails within 30 minutes
slightly confused about which one to go by

would changing anything else apart from the cpu/dram voltages help? the cpu ppl voltage has gone back to auto

cant seem to get a stable oc at 3.7 with burn test running at maximum, 8 threads and 20 runs

am i the only one to notice his cpu pill is way to high lol he gonna fry the dam thing.
im at 4.2 HT enabled and my PILL is at 1.8v

you need to use IBT 2.1, as it gives you the new GUI adn proper thread settings
before only 4 threads where being tasked thats why they where jumping up and down,

with the new GUI you select 16 threads and watch em all shoot up and never come down :P lol

haha turned it down to 1.8 as well
some reason i actually cant get to 3.7, unless im missing something or doing soemthing wrong
