I just noticed my system is running at 100% CPU usage an is going very slow. I have scanned some stuff I recently downloaded and it seems ok (using Avast) and I'm doing a full scan now. I've checked task manager and nothing seems to be at 100 CPU or anywhere near that. Here's a shot of what's running: (sorry it's huge, it took me about 10 minutes just to upload it so it's all I can do at the moment).

The only stuff I have downloaded recently are some GTR 2 addons and a demo off steam, in which I left my computer on overnight doing the demo and GTR addons. And now it seems to flooding task manager with loads of programs going on, I guess I pretty much have a virus then?

That is quite possibly the most amount of processes I have ever seen open! I would definetly but running something like "Search and Destroy" (it's a program) on that machine, or even just formatting and starting again. a lot of those processes do look legimate, such as "ash...exe" is related to Avast. Firefox.exe is obviously firefox, rundll32.exe is the windows subsystem executable and so forth. However they could be cleverly disguised, and if they are located somewhere silly like C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc then they are most like virus/trojan/malware related. Plus due to the amount of them running and how many are duplicated numerous times it's like to be something dodgy.

Best advice: Run "Search and Destroy" a few times, or even better format.

Finish your scan.

If nothing shows, try adaware, spybot and any other spyware program you can think of.

Install this: http://www.neuber.com/taskmanager/

It should have a free trial, it checks all your running processes and flags any that it knows or suspects to be suspicious. You can use that info to do some googling to find out what each one is.

It's unlikely you would need to format, and a bit drastic before you even know whats up.

It froze earlier and I restarted and it has not gone to 100%. There aren't as many processes but there are still some suspicious ones so I will check. I finished a spyware scan and a full Avast scan and it only came up with problems that it could not scan some corrupt files (unless this is a virus preventing Avast from scanning it).

Ok, I got Security Task manager and everything is legit apart from and unknown process called 7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045 that is an IE browser extension, which is apparently unknown due to an invalid registry entry. I googled it quick but seems it is a random thing linked to various programs, can anyone help? Everything but that is legit and acounted for, it just seems strange there is one thing that is not accounted for, plus it has a rating of 52 (highest out of everything, next highest being 49 which is my DVD decoder and program), but does say 'seems to be harmless' (how reassuring lol). I'm running a full Lavasoft Ad-Aware scan and it has picked some stuff up the quick scan did not get. Thanks.

Edit: I don't normally have a lot of processes running or a slow computer in anyway, it just suddenly went funny after GTR 2 went all slow and I had to quit (I guess this was the point in which it shot to 100% CPU, stopping me from playing GTR). Right now I have 41 running and 0% CPU usage, I have Avast up, Ad-Aware and MSN, aswell as task manager and security task manager and Firefox.

57 processes... woa woa woa!

Might be a factor as to why your PC is running so slow.

Not at all.
I've currently got 71 Processes running and my machine is still as lightning quick as always.
It's not the number of processes running that cause the problem it is how much CPU time and resources they are taking.
