HELP !! How can I recover my files !!!

I just cannot get back into windows xp. Every time I click on user I get this message :

I get the same when booting in safe mode. Have I lost the Mrs 's holiday snaps forever

Calm down dear....

Your photos are still retrievable- there are 2 commonly-used methods of file retrieval.

1) Put the hard disk in another machine as the "slave drive" and copy them from one machine to the other, then onto some form of removable media such as CD-R.

2) Use a boot disk such as knoppix or BartPE and then copy them off the machine to a pen drive, over the network or to a CD.

OK thanks, If I do option 1 and attach my harddisk to my son's pc. Do i just connect it to the same cable as my son's hd and will it be recognized by his pc ? sorry I'm a bit of a noob at this .
