I recently bought an Asus x250ta laptop from a car boot sale , and the user has locked the laptop with a password ? I tried to reset the laptop but it needs me to insert a BitLocker recovery key which I don’t have and without this I can’t factory reset ? The problem is I can’t find the seller , What are my options ..Cheers

As above, you can use an installable USB/disk to wipe the drive and install a clean image. Might be better doing this as the factory image on the laptop will have the included Asus bloat as well.

You may need to use diskpart to properly wipe the drive using the clean command.

disk encryption can be a royal pain in the backside when it comes to working on 2nd hand laptops.

All I ever do is pop in a Linux Live USB and wipe the drive completely, install from scratch.

If I ever bought a laptop from a car boot sale a complete format and re install would be the first thing I would do.

god knows what they have installed on it or left on there when you first boot it up.

Without the bitlocker key your not getting in to the laptop

As all the advice so far. Nuke the laptop and start again. In fact, this is what I do with brand new laptops generally.
