I have a PC with Vista installed. I changed the Bios setting from SATA to AHCI thinking it would allow me to hotplug my new external esata harddrive but now it won't boot and won't let me enter the Bios to change the setting back. It just sits there displaying this message:-

**This version supports only hard disk CDROM drives**
Please wait. This will take a few seconds.

..........
Contoller Bus#00, Device#1F, Function#02: 06 Ports, 01 Devices

The motherboard is a Foxconn P9657AA-8EKRS2H

How do I get back into the Bios when the Delete key doesn't work?

To use AHCI you will (I think) reinstall Vista with the correct drivers, F6 during install.
The eSata again you will need to install the drivers in windows usualy Jmicron, this should be on your disc which come with your motherboard.

Hope the above helps :)

Disconnect what ever is on that port, in fact to be sure disconnect all HDDs, DVD/CD drives etc. That should then let you boot in to the BIOS, make your changes then save and turn it off. You can then reconnect all your drives and boot as normal.

You'll then need to sort out the ACHI drivers in Vista if you do work out after that how to get it set to ACHI and booting ok. It is possible to change between normal and ACHI after the o/s is installed but it's a bit fiddly.

Thank you ... Thank you ... Thank you. That help was really quick and spot on. I disconnected all the drives and it let me enter the Bios again. I think I'll forget about ACHI for now, I'm just soooo relieved to get it switched on again
