My ex lived to the age of 30 before she tasted a 'mince pie' on the grounds that she thought it contained actual meat... she saw me tucking into tesco's finest mince pies with brandy, made a face and said 'how can your eat little tiny pies filled with meat, mixed with brandy, with sugar on top?!'
I swear, I almost fell out of my chair. This had to be some kind of joke.
After some minutes of explanation and many disbelieving looks on her part, I finally managed to get her to eat one. The look on her face, when she finally realised how tasty they are, was priceless.
Funnily enough, the box was empty the next morning - she ate the lot!
Apple & Blackberry crumble > Rhubarb crumble > Apple crumble.

I have always got a jar of mince in the cupboard. Improves with age. Just get some Jus-Roll and bake away.
