Ok story is short.

Decided to have a bath. After i came out watched some tv and had some dinner. Then after i decided to pop on the computer but thought hmm carpet needs a hover so i did just that. I did hover around the computer and i did knock the desk with the hover but not that much to do anything at all just a gentle tap. I used the end bit to hover the front of the case where the dust gridle thing was to get bit of dust out.

Anyhow.

After all that i sat down and turned it on. Now when Via sata bios thing pops up to check the sata drives it just pauses for a while and says Hardware initilization failure, Check hardware !!! or somit.

Edit - actual message

Scan devices
Press <tab> key into user window!
Hardware initiate failed, please check device!!!
The bios does not be installed
Press <g> to continue!

I tryed takin cables in and out and also changed the cable port from sata 1 to sata 2 but no go. I might try another sata cable but that means another go at removing gfx card cos sata ports right under the end of it and its a double slot card grr.

I tryed sorting it bios wise but bios wasnt pickin the hdd up.

Also i tryed putting just my 2 ide drives on which were fine before. It didnt work with 2 drives in so i just put the windows xp one in and booted that up but it doesnt boot into full windows. I am sat here on safe mode, i duno why on earth it wouldnt work in full windows mode.

So what can i do I REALLY NEED HELP!!!!!!!!

As the sata has all my stuff on i need and it has newest windows xp sp3 and stuff on. I need it and refuse to lose it.

Edit -

The sata is a segate sata 2 (in sata 1 mode tho) 500giger from ocuk bought last month or two ago.

Motherboard is a asus a8v deluxe rev 2.0 with 1014 bios.

Strange thing is when via controller says the error it says bios not installed but mb bios is so im very confused about that message.

I'm sorry I can't be of more help but I just don't know except these few things :
error: bios is not installed just means it cant find any drives plugged into that (via) controller, don't be confused about it, if the via controller is enabled an no sata drives are plugged into it then all a8v deluxe board say this...

Secondly, have you tried all 4 sata ports for your hdd ?

It is also odd it only does safe mode, have you tried ''last known working config'' ?

I'm not even sure whether this is an hdd problem or a mainboard problem but by the sound of it, it sounds like a mainboard problem.

very strange i wonder if its static electricity thats caused it, try disconnecting your system completly from the main for at least 30mins (longer might be better) and see if it helps

Vacuum cleaners can store a really high static charge, and can nuke your components, It's why they sell the "Air in a can" for cleaning pc's.

Someone else posted 2 days ago that they killed the front usb ports by tapping the nozzle against it.

I suspect you fried one of the components on the motherboard. :(
On a brighter note, your data is probably safe.

Strip it down and rebuild to be sure.

was the pc connected to the mains socket when you vaccumed it? if it was connected then it shoudl be earthed and there should be no problem with static killing components.

maybe your bios reset itself, check in bios options if you have your sata controller enabled(if your using sata drive)

1. Disconected from mains last night still probs in the morning.

2. Yes sata was on in bios.

3. I didnt do anything internal with the hoover just the front of the case.

4. Other hdds worth the whole comp works why just the one drive? Stupid sata crap wish i bought another ide least they work...

Btw i tryed cmos reset, no good tho.

Im seriously getting pee'd off right now with this cos i cant afford any replacement components.

If it is the sata ports fubered what sata pci card should i get?

The os on the drive is xp with sp3

It was cloned with via chipset drivers so presume via will be ok but does it have to be exact same via chipset as mb or doesnt matter as long as its via????

Answers quick cos might have to pick one up soon ish depends if test over sisters goes ok as she has a sata mb.

About the caddy option how much speed will i lose if i did that, and will this work for that purpose.
