Hi

Having a issue on a server i work on however i am no server support.

The machine has a RAID 1 c drive and RAID 5 e drive with a hot swop the total drive space on e is 2tb (6 x 500GB bit lost due to the raid and the hot swop drive)

Now i am building a map cache (i work in GIS) on the server as the E drive will be holding that map cache however after only 400GB mapping cached, the server stopped working (no error just stopped creating new files)

Having a look i get the following error now when trying to copy any file to the server:

0x8007012E: The volume is to fragmented to complete this operation.
The server is running windows server 2008 (x64)

I have never come across this issue of having to run a degragmenter on a server. I have windows 2003 server boxes and have run this with the same jobs being run before on the server.

Any ideas? Searching google with that error code doesnt come up with much.

I am now running the defragment job however its really slow (still running since friday morning on 400GB used space)

Any help, this is doing me head in.

Just working on a hunch and as no ones replied. Have you checked your drives to make sure there isnt one giving a dodgy SMART status.

I think this sounds very much like a hardware or driver issue.

thanks

Sever support tried to update the bios today....it failed....think they are creating a bootable iso to boot to and see if they cna restore the bios!

Happy days!
