Hi,

I am looking to upgrade my screen to 24" Dell, and so researching getting another XFX 7800 GTX to go SLI with (if it turns out I need one). But I havea few q's for ya, and if someone could help would appreciate it.

1 - I understand the cards must be identical (i.e. same manufacturer, same model, same speed)?

2 - Subject to 1 above, I need to know what speed my card is, been ages since i bought it and I can't remember if I went for the overclocked one or the standard jobbie. How can I tell? It is an XFX 7800GTX (256mb version)

3 - I need to get this 2nd card second hand really as I don't want to splash out on a new card set up really until *** DX10 ones or at least the G800 and Rad come out. Is this a good idea? If the seller has updated/modified the card's bios, will I need to reset/flash them to the same? (hope not...that stuff scares the bejeebies outta me).

Cheers folks

Actually, you can mix-and-match brands. Nvidia introduced this in a driver version this time last year.

The only thing that matters is that you use another 256MB 7800GTX, as far as I know, and nothing else.

You can check the clockspeeds with a program like Rivatuner, though as far as I know it's not important for SLi but it's worth looking into.

You'll have to buy one second-hand really, as far as I know 7800GTX's aren't made anymore. I don't remember flashing their BIOS ever being a done thing, so I wouldn't worry about that.
