Put my 290X in after work today, reinstalled all drivers, set up my ssd and so on.

Started to play a bit of bf4 got about an hour into the game and my computer blue screened..

What should i do? What tests should i run? I'm reading

i downloaded bluescreen viewer and getting an error of hal.dll which is related to a unstable overclock.

Now the system was stable and could run bf4 for hours without even battering an eye lid.. now all of a sudden it wont? could this be due to the change in psu?

EDIT* could it be my voltages too high now running the more powerful PSU?

I'm confused to how it's never been a problem before and all of a sudden it's popped up.

I'm running a stress test as we speak to see temps and stuff.

But i'm still going to reset to default and redo the oc

different psu will have slightly different voltage levels which could affect overclocking. Try putting your old one in and see if it cures it.

My old Psu isn't powerful enough to power the new graphics card :(

i'm just going to redo the overclock tomorrow and go from there.

EDIT**

It passed a 45 minute stress test fine. I'm reading it can also be a driver issue?

You have to bare in mind, just because you are stable in one stress test/benchmark doesnt always necessarily mean your OC is "stable".You say your ran a stablity test for 45min? Thats not really enough time to call an OC stable.Bare minimum is 4hrs IMO.Personally i test a few hours each on a few different programs.

BF4 is extremely CPU hungry when playing MP and it isnt uncommon for it to crash OC'ed systems that seemed stable.Hell once had an OC pass 6hr loops of x264, and then crash everytime time on the hitman bench lol

Edit: What is your new PSU?

Haswell stability when overclocking is very hard to do, you cant under any circumstances run the old tests like p95 etc. (temps get dangerously high). As said above, can you get the bsod code. It gives a good idea of what to work from.

It was odd I went back on to play with y brother and played until 6 this morning without any problems. Bloody computers.

I did run a 6 hour test when I first done the overclock and it passed and max of 73 degrees that was a quick one I done last night just to check my temps and stuff.

did you get a new PSU when you got your gpu and SSD?

what gpu was you running before?

it could be that your new gpu and overclock are straining the PSU and causing it to blue screen?

try lowering the overclock a little and then give it another try or failing that remove the overclock and try again

You have to bear in mind that if your PSU is now under heavier load if you were using a lower power consumption card previously.

More stress would be being placed on the 12v rail of the PSU, so your CPU might require a tad more voltage for maintaining the same overclock as before.

First thing to do is remove the overclock you simply cannot keep the overclock and assume the card, psu, drivers etc are at fault. Remove the OC then test, does it BSOD then?

Overclocks are by nature unstable, you're pushing it to the edge and just because one configuration is "stable" with a combination of hardware doesn't mean another will be.

Did some overclocking recently everything seemed to be fine passed all the tests but 5 minutes into a game... lockup. Tried everything thought it was the cpu, then the graphics card... couldn't track it down was tearing my hair out but turned out to be the one thing I hasn't considered, the Dram not getting enough volts. Had forgotten I'd set an XMP profile a while ago...
