Hey guys,

I haven't been keeping in touch with monitors for a while so i'm quite confused on what to choose or what to even look for.

Currently i have a CTX 17" CRT monitor that i had for a long time time. It has served me well but now i'm sure you guys agree, it's time for a change :) .

So i have a budget of around £200-£300 and what i'm looking for is a solid 24" monitor which has HDMI as i have a PS3 lying around. I have already looked around but confused what to get exactly.

Ideally I want to buy a Samsung monitor above LG, reasons being I heard from a friend of mine who works in Tech Support that "they do tend to get returned back a lot more than Samsung's". I could rather do without all that hassle to be honest.

So i've been looking at the Samsung 2494HM but not entirely sold on it yet as I can't seem to find a decent review of it online.

I'm in no rush anyway. I may just save up and buy the Dell U2410 if need be. I still have good gander around and see what else is out there.

Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Djimty

Thanks for the quick replies :)

I'll look at both monitors and continue to look at others as well. I also forget to mention i need a monitor of good build i.e. something strong so the kids cant easily knock it over. I had a look first hand on both Samsung and LG (cant remember what models exactly) in store and for me it seemed very easy to knock over. I may just be nit-picking here lol :D.

Haha well... Compared to the U2410 you were also thinking about most things are easy to knock over. :D I have one infront of me right now actually - I'm reviewing it and the review should be finished, with any luck, by this weekend. It has the most amazingly slip-resistant stand imaginable.

Considering your budget, you may want to have a look at the Dell U2311H (here is a review). However, only go down this route if you have a new (DX11 generation) graphics card as it will require you to plug the PC in via Displayport so you have a free DVI connection for your games console (though an adapter like this).

Also, the stand is very nice :D

Well I'll tell you what... You said you're not in a rush? By the end of this month I'll have the U2410 and U2211H reviewed so I'll be able to give you some good feedback on those including addressing any concerns you may have. :)

Chop Chop PCM2! I'm waiting on these to. :)

:D...I have a 5570 which comes with the Display Port you mentioned. I quite liked U2311H since its an IPS and a lot cheaper than the U2410 which you cant really go wrong with.

Aye, i'm not in a rush at all so i'll hold out for your reviews. Just make it quick :D.

Now i could be wrong here, cos i don't use my PS3 on my U2410, but the one time i did, i couldn't find an easy way to stop the ps3 stretching the image vertically. U2410's are 16:10 and the PS3 is 16:9

Maybe there's a way to maintain the correct aspect ratio when using a PS3, if so i'd be happy to hear about it? If not I'd stick with a 1920x1080 monitor rather than a 1920x1200.

you may also want to post on the gaming console forum to see what they recommend in there. (PS3 gaming screen wise)

Isn't there a 1:1 pixel mapping option on the U2410? Sure I saw one on a review....

for £230 you can get a 28" Hans G monitor that outputs at 1920x1200. I own a iiyama 27" monitor and I LOVE IT!. It's a wonderful size not too big and perfect for HD movies. I know it's a little more than a 24" monitor but believe me it's well worth the extra dosh.

Personally I've never used Hans G before but you could look up some reviews if your interested.

One thing I can recommend is, don't get a glass monitor you'll spend more time seeing a reflection of yourself than anything else. Don't get me wrong the quality seems much better with glass monitors due to it's deep blacks etc but unless your planning on using your PC in a dark room only it's not worth it.

28" would just be overkill in my case. My rig is currently set-up in a small room, a 23"/24" would just be perfect.
