Help in solving a problem with a SB setup

Hi

My brother has just put together a SB system.
The parts are
Gigabyte p67 UD4
His ATI 6950 Graphics card
8GB of Corsair XMS3 memory
Samsung hard drive
Windows 7 pro 64
Panasonic LCD TV
CXreative 5.1 speakers

Everything went together well and its up and running and is a dream to use apart from one thing.
We have used an HDMI lead to connect graphic card to tv. The display works fine but there is a problem with sound.
If using the windows apps you can hear sound from the tv but if you try a game or youtube nothing comes out of the tv.
5.1 system works ok but for some reason only the beep beeps from windows sound is heard from the tv.

We are both new to windows 7 so don't know if there is something there we have missed but we have played around with the windows environment and the ATI cat with no luck.
I just can't understand why we can't seem to get everything out of the tv???

Have we missed something?

Many thanks for that. Will give it a go when I pop over later to see how things are going at his place.
I've also spotted some ATI hdmi drivers and some Realtek drivers when I sat down at 4am this morning having a cuppa at my place, but I'll try what you have said and see what happens first.
