Help installing graphics drivers for first time

Hi all,

When I reinstalled my OS (Win 7), windows automatically downloaded and installed some graphics drivers before I had the chance to install my own. I then downloaded the latest drivers from the ATI site and installed them.

Does it matter that I installed the new drivers on top of whatever windows put on?

What is the suggested plan of action for installing graphics drivers on a clean OS install?

Follow the drop down boxes, download the latest drivers and CAPs, double click and the rest is pretty much automatic.
