I'm trying to install Ubuntu 10.04 on an old PC and while booting from the CD it gets so far before I get an error
Code:
[162.136003] BUG: soft lockup - CPU#0 stuck for 61s! [plymouthd:1073]
[227.636001] BUG: soft lockup - CPU#0 stuck for 61s! [plymouthd:1073]
and it just repeats this message with the number in the first bracket getting larger. I've tried burning a new CD but that's the same. I've also tried googleing but I cant seem to find anything useful.

Any help with getting it to install is appreciated

Try appending 'noacpi' to your kernel boot line.

Grub > e (edit entry) > add 'noacpi' to the line with at least 'ro' and 'splash' on it > press b to boot.

I think 'e' and 'b' are the right shorcuts it will tell you somewhere on the screen eitherway.
