First time trying to use a RAID :)

I have 3 SSD's
Corsair Pro 128gb
Corsair Pro 256gb
Corsair Pro 256gb

I want to install windows 7 on the 128gb drive and then have the 2 256gbs joined together in a RAID0 as a large data drive.

If I change the SATA mode in the BIOS to RAID (from ACHI) and then boot with the Windows CD, when I get to the "Choose Installation Drive" section, all 3 drives are displayed with the "Windows cannot be installed on this drive" error next to the all.

But it lets me format the drives but doesnt let me install windows.

Am I supposed to install additional RAID drivers at this point?? The impression I get reading around the internet is that I shouldnt need any additional drivers as its standard onboard RAID controller and Windows setup should have them all.

Can someone give me a muppet guide as to what Im supposed to do.

PS : I have no floppy drive.

Thanks

you have set bios to raid,
but have u made the raid set up, after u set raid, reboot, usual button to press in boot up should be crtl+I, then raid the 2 drives you want, (will be step by step guide, so easy to understand) your mobo manual will tell u command if it not this 1.

Hi thanks for reply. My problem is not so much with creating the RAID array. I can do that easily through the CTRL+I method.

My problem is that when Im booting with the Windows 7 CD, at the part where you select the drive to install to, all the drives are shown (including the RAID one) but I cannot install on any of them. There just a message "Windows cannot install on this drive" when you click on them, something about it not possibly being bootable or something.

But if I change BIOS back to AHCI then enter Windows 7 setup it allows it to be installed. Just not when its changed to RAID?

Could you not try to install Windows 7 when RAID is NOT applied then once it's installed on the 128gb drive apply the RAID the the 256gb drive after it's all installed? Never tried RAID so not sure if it's possible or not but just thought it was worth a try :)
