I'd pull it out of your machine and blow the other way through the cooler to see if it is clogged up with dust - My 7900GT reached 107 and has done damage. I'd not take the risk. Depending on what the cooler is that you currently have on it you may not have that much on an increase in performance since the Zalman doesn't vent the warm air, it mearly circulates it.

VF700-CU, cheaper as the 900, yet keeps my gs under 55C full load, under 45 C idle...

Also temps arn't that bad, had mine @ 126C for +- 30 minutes when I accidently stuck a molex into my zalmans fan,so the fan didn't spin, didn't notice it tbh untill the ''cable fitting glue'' started being smelly on my vf700, the thing was bloody hot to the touch and u could feel the heat around the whole gfx area, probably due to playing medieval 2 total war for hours on it... :D , But gfx card still works fine a few months after...

Might be worth indeed checkign for dust at the moment, I renember my old 6600GT cooler was filled with dust when i replaced it with a 6800...
