As the title says, I have just installed a new CPU. I have gone from E8600 dual core to Q9650 quad.

Bios looks fine, posted fine. Windows 7 errors saying change in hardware.

Put in win setup disc, now it is running startup repair and attempting to repair.

Is this normal and does it work. Also if there is anyway round it please let me know.

Did you check bios compatibility for the q9650. You may need to update to a newer bios revision.

I am fairly sure I had the latest bios , I did go into the bios to check that I had not left it OC'd from earlier. It regcognosed the chip fine. All settings correct

Repair might work, else a reinstall is next on the list. I don't remember seeing this before, but I'm not particularly surprised. Windows doesn't cope well with hardware changes.

I don't think you're going to have much fun overclocking the quad on your current motherboard. Good luck with that

Thanks to all those who have taken the time and viewed and/or reviewed my post.

Turns out both me and windows were being a bit dumb!

I suddenly realised that in resetting my bios I had inadvertantly turned of my on board raid! Therefore, no boot - stupid error tho!

In reply to the OCing comment I am current at 4.10ghz after one session and it is on air!
Not bad going so far. Any tips on getting more please let me know
