Just popped in my 7850. Went straight to the AMD website and installed the catalyst control/driver package.
However in CPU-Z my card just shows up as "Radeon 7800 Series" no other info on clocks/speeds etc. I haven't tried any games etc but how do I check this is running and installed properly. It doesn't say 7850 anywhere and I can't find a way of checking the speed it's running at.

It's a Gigabyte.
Also in the AMD control panel it says it's PCIe 2.0 when it should be 3.0

Also just launched a game it says hardwared DirectX9?

you want gpu-z for graphics cards. even mine says radeon 7900 1gb, which is of course wrong. also, i think because xx50 and xx70 cards use the same chip, all you get in any monitoring program is xx00 anyway. it won't come up as 7850 anywhere in other words

Some games are still directx 9 and your motherboard probably only has PCIE 2.0, it really doesn't matter though as no single card can use the extra bandwidth PCIE 3.0 provides.

brand doesn't matter, afterburner works on any vendor card since it's all the same chip. pcie speed changes depending on load, and finally games will be whichever directx version they were made with. directx9 games will be that regardless of hardware

edit: i type too damn slowly :l. his mobo is pcie3, it probably goes up in speed when he plays something. mine's at pcie1.1 right now

i panicked too early as usual!!!
got gpu-z and it's showing the right speeds!!
i'll download afterburner now in that case :P

Yeah don't worry about it, the card will definitely be a 7850. Easiest way is to just run a quick benchmark like unigine heaven and compare scores to other 7850's to make sure it's performing okay :)

Assuming the spec in his sig then the OP's motherboard is PCI-E 3.0 he just doesn't have a suitable processor.
