Hi all,
My pressure washer has packed up and I know people say never to throw them away as they can be easily fixed.. but that’s only if you know what the problem is!
When I turn the pressure washer on the motor (I believe) doesn’t auto shut off, it just runs and runs and runs. This is therefore not allowing any pressure to build, leaving me with a useless pressure washer.

I’ve tried taking it apart and cannot see any noticeable issues, but again I have no idea why I’m really looking for!

Any help/suggestions would be great fully appreciated.

Thanks,
Niall

I'll move this to homes and gardens as it's more a household/garden related hardware question than a computer one :)

My guess would be it's possibly either a pressure sensor not working, or the motor is running but the impeller that actually creates the pressure isn't turning (so the motor drive is spinning freely) or is worn.

Does any water come out the gun, even if it's just mains water pressure?
If nothing, possibly the inlet is blocked and you are starving the pump, does it have a little strainer?

Sometimes you need to bleed the air out before the pump will stop. Turn off the electric supply to the pressure washer but keep the water turned on, then squeeze the trigger until the water stops spitting out and flows smoothly.

The large capacitor is a common failure in the Karcher units. If it’s that it’s a very inexpensive and simple repair. Around £10 for the part.

Few troubleshooting steps you can take to try to diagnose are mentioned here…

How old is it, and is it still in warranty?

Karcher replaced my old K2 with a reconditioned unit when it died in the warranty period. Then that 'new' one died 3 months later, out of warranty, so I went and bought a Nilfisk instead.

... when you turn on a pressure washer the pump runs continuously, and there is a bypass valve/unloader in the pump so the water gets recirculated unless the hand trigger on nozzle is used to allow the water out.
If no water come out when you do use trigger then the by-pass valve may need cleaning/replacing as it is jammed open.
you can loose the cooling if the water is recirculating a long time so device overheats, too - I did some heart surgery on my K7 for that.
