Help: Kittens!

Need more pictures of kittens :(

Its hard because of where she has picked.... its very much surrounded on all sides and part covered on top... I don't want to use the flash and stress her out but will be trying to get some better ones this weekend if there is more light.

Sorry about that :)

It's awesome to see faith in humanity :) Have you perhaps talked to someone regarding anymore animals down the road. If one of my animals went missing for a couple of days, I'd be terrified.

She has been sleeping in our garage for about 6 months, believe me I don't think that they are bothered I'm about 98% certain of this. I have thought about reporting them to the RSPCA... see if they can get any court order against them owning animals...

Hey,

Right, mother is loving the kitten food, I'm mixing it with dry kitten food at the moment but she is eating it like there is no tomorrow, but I understand as she is needing it for the Kittens.

I'm currently looking into how I can stop the kittens from getting lost and also tidying the garage without stressing the mother out too much there isn't much in there which can hurt the kittens but plenty that they can jump around onto which might be more interesting for them.

I'm also going to need a litter tray I'm guessing as well as I don't think that they are not going to poo until I rehome them :) Might wonder off to my local pet store tonight to get sometime sorted.

Kittens will be a week old tomorrow which is weird as it does not feel like its been a week, I'm keeping visitors to a minimum at the moment as I don't want to stress the mother out... only me and the misses can go into the garage.

They were crying again this morning for food but the mother seems to be providing enough and most of the noise is coming from a rather large male cat... his is going to be a massive cat...

I think that a couple of them maybe grey and a couple black :)

Okay,

Went to see them today and the mother is eating like a horse and for me to say that then she must be eating a lot! :). I managed to get in there this morning just as she was out and get a couple more pics after putting down some food and water so after much waiting here you are:

Their eyes are open and seem more active, one is definitely a boy but this is a family forum but lets just say that he is not proud and was rolling around like no ones business :)

I keep expecting to go in there and them all to be gone, I know I'm being a bit of a loser but I'm really enjoying looking after them and know that the mother is she feel threaten will move the kittens and herself out of the equation...

What has got me even more worried is that she came back half way through me taking a picky and didn't seem too happy about it, went past me and sat next to the kittens with a 'I'm not happy' look on her face... then sniffed the air and think she could smell the food :)

Well try and get more to you tonight, maybe no pics :(

Stelly

Well with the weekend here get them transfered to the house and you won't have to worry anymore. If she doesn't like you around the kittens then it's best you get mum in the room first.

Need to talk the misses into it first, the mother isn't house trained so she is worried about her doing it everywhere! :(

Absolutely poo'd myself this morning... I thought that she had left... little gutted but understood... I noticed that one of the cardboard boxes that I was thinking about throwing out had moved so I was going to throw it out so I lifted it and out darted the mother... she had moved them into the cardboard box... any ideas what I should do now?? Move the box somewhere better?

Stelly

Okay since the mother darted I moved the box into a more stable location and also made it a little more tidy for them... I have just see the mother come back and go into the garage... fingers crossed that she doesnt move them out of the garage...

Stelly

Okay, mother and kittens seem to have settled in the box, I have got a litter tray and put is down, proofed the garage as well from drafts and for kittens, feel a lot better now :)

How are things going Stelly??

Any update on the ickle fir balls :D

Hey,

Sorry been mad busy in work...

Okay well the kittens are doing well... I have closed up the garage so that the mother and kittens cannot get out in readiness for when the Kittens start to venture out of the box.

Mum is not impressed with the new setup but she is accepting it, seems to be spending more time out of the box that has the kittens in and sitting in a corner that she seems to like a lot... good thing is that she has taken to the litter tray (and I didn't realise how much cat poops smells a lot more than dog poop)

Since the mother is out of the box more now I can get more of a look at the kittens and the are right fatties at the moment, I thought that the mother was not feeding them as she was out of the box every time that I went in but I have been going in at about 10pm to give them a feed and she has been in the box both times.

The are starting to try and stand as I can hear them on the cardboard digging their claws in trying to get up right but then a small thud as they fail at that task...

I may try and get some pics of them tonight if the mother is out of the box, but we did have a little drama the other night, the next door neighbour had decided without informing me that they were putting a new fence up and there was a lot of noise that the mother did not approve of and looked a little stressed.

Anyway I think that it is it for now :)

So at the moment I'm bagging and binning it, should I be doing this? yay or nay? I don't see the difference as it either:

1. Goes in the bin, then to the tip
2. Goes in the loo, then to treatment facility

Views please? :)

Hey guys,

Well I managed to get another picture this morning...

wp20130501001.jpg

It seems to be taking forever for them to open their eyes and seem to have been in this state for ages... maybe its just me. They are 2 weeks old this Friday night and I'm guessing that I'm just being really impatient.

Am I right in thinking that they should be between 2 and 3 weeks before they start walking around and taking solid food?

Came in this morning to a right mess with the litter tray it was like the mother is trying everything to get every like bit out of the tray and onto the floor... I'm going to have a good tidy tonight but couldn't this morning.

I'm just so glad that they all seem to be alive *touches wood* they are right fatties which seems to mean that they are feeding well... one thing I will say though is I have changed the food a little... in the morning I'm giving the mother a mix of wet and dry normal food and then dry kitten food mixed with wet at night.

Stelly

This is true, I'm in the process of converting mine to wet.

I've also heard that dry and wet shouldn't be given in the same meal as they metabolise it differently. Just something to think about.

Bad food contributes to smelly poos too. So can parasites etc which she is very likely to have.

I might look into that then, what is a good wet food??

Alright mate, sorry not been online V much recently things have been a bit mental at my end.

Glad things seem to be going well! I will try and jump online tonight for a catch up and I can send you some links about what to expect in terms of progress from the kittens etc.

Has the mum settled anymore with you around or is she still V wary of you?

Don't worry about it mate :)

Mother is still very very wary of me... she will sit in her corner every time that I come is as she feels safe there... she is doing the whole squinting and looking away from me but still I don't think we are near ready to get too close :)

Also if the mother is still intent on emptying the litter tray you may want to get a covered one and save the open one for when the kittens will start to use it. Covered litter trays are a god send lol.

Can you provide me with a link? Will go and have a look this weekend, but anything online so I have an idea would be great :)

Hey Guys,

Rather big news....

The mother has again moved the kittens, this time into the dog bed that Judy use to use which I set up for her in the first place... some nice comfy towels in it and well out of any draft... better late then never I guess :)

This also means that I can get some better pics since its open and I can acutally see them, not like the box that she picked second time :\

She is still rather dubious of me, she is cleaning herself a little and also napping when I sit with her for a bit... I have started doing this so that she can get use to me but in stark contrast sometimes she will hide in the box and growl as I go passed to fill the food bowl... I suppose it depends on the mood that she is in.

This morning she stayed feeding the kittens without an issue... I get really close to get the food dish moving slowly... its just weird... anyway... mora pics!!!

The are also starting to move around the basket as well... saw one of them attempt to walk... which is rather cool and they are starting to open their eyes :)

To tame the mother, you could try hand feeding her tit bits of fish, then stroking her as she eats.

BEWARE : some cats hate being touched when they eat and will attack you

She will not eat while I'm there... believe me I have tried. I have waited for an hour or so and she just will not do anything like that :)
