Help: Kittens!

Hey guys,

Just updating with a video... thought that you might want to see their progress I'm really happy with them... I didn't want to keep updating the thread with small updates :)

They are around 5 weeks old now and getting very nosey about their surroundings. I have picked one up the mother did a little growl but nothing else... I'm also stroking them which isn't an issue for me. Mother also ate for the first time in front of me as well :D

In the next few days I'm going to get a friend to hold one so they get use to other people that isn't me.... lets see how that goes :)

When do you think they will be ready?

Can't wait to have one now.

They are still taking milk off their mother at the moment mate... they are starting to get interested in her cat food but just small little smells then back to pouncing on each other :)

I promise to let you and TrixiBuG know as soon as they are ready mate. I will take a video of me holding one tonight :D

Argh... okay but of an urgent update...

Basically I went in last night and everything was fine she was there with the kittens all good and happy. I picked one up and had a stroke she didn't make a noise and seemed happy for me to do it.

Come in this morning and she isn't there she has ate only a little food when its normally ate it all... the dish is normally clean. She has not touched her water or litter tray either... I'm really worried at this point as she has never done this before.

and I thought that I had escape proofed the garage... Kittens are fine though seem good... I'm really worried though :(

I'm going to call them in a bit... I talked to the misses and if she is not back then we will hand rear them if it comes to that but I hope that the cat comes back...

Stelly

Thanks guys

Your words are really helping... I just feel like its my fault for picking one up last night but she didn't give any warnings and looked calm about it

:( :(

Cats have a habit of disappearing for extended periods. If she's a stray then staying put for a long time is probably a little unnatural to her - now that the kittens are a little bigger and can survive a little longer between feeds she has probably gone out to investigate her old territory and hunting grounds more closely. I wouldn't worry just yet - not until tomorrow morning at the very least.

I highly doubt that it's due to you touching the kittens. Even though you haven't stroked the mother cat yet, she is obviously familiar with your scent (she's raising her kittens in a place that smells of you - the bringer of food). She will associate your scent as being friendly by this stage. I highly doubt that she has abandoned the kittens, and certainly not because of your scent.

She'll be back later, mark my words.

Your words have been marked! :)

Stelly

She will come back Stelly :)

Snoop will disappear for up to 8hrs some days, she is just going for an extended wonder.

When one of the cats in my mother in laws house had a litter, she would flounce off for a few hours when they got to around that age yours are now...the dog would go and sit with them lol. She once turned back up with a mouse for them

BTW, yes I still want one :) The kind words of the Kitteh Thread peeps have calmed my resolve :)

I have just talked to the CPL who have viewed the video and said she doesn't look stressed and that she has probably gone out for a break away... it just worried me that she has left most of her food which she never does... ever!

It maybe hand rearing time but they said that it would only be for a few days as they should be on solids very very soon... I have to do the whole wet bum thing to stimulate toilage but I'm not too bothered about that.

I'm going to get a hot water bottle and wrap it up putting it into the basket in the hope that it will keep the kittens warm, if she does not come back I will take them in doors but I'm going to ensure that she is not coming back before doing that...

*whisper* grey cat is it :D

This has to be the longest day in work ever!!!

Stelly

Argh, cannot stop thinking about how they are, it is not the warmest outside... I want to go home now...

I was going to let my rotty do the stimulation ;)

Stelly

As mentioned before, the dog (Grizzly) at my mother in laws was basically a kitten sitter when the mum went out and he did this for that litter lol :P

Very funny to see a HUGE old male collie dog playing nurse to a bunch of little kittens :D

I don't really think Judith would do that... we might introduce her at some stage to try and get them use to dogs, but that's about it really :)

Stelly

hello!!

yes she is back! I will have to get use her going out and around... it's not bad means that I can have have of a hold of the kittens :)

It is the main reason that I have locked her in... I think that she must be coming back in heat as I can't see where she is actually getting out I have just closed off the smallest hole ever and hope that she will not be able to get out now... I have got a CPL voucher for her spaying but like you said I need to wait until the cats are fully on solids.

There is a litter box in there that she is using and she has the whole garage to herself if she wants to stay away from the kittens.

I promise to get better pictures tonight, well, try :)

Those kittens are sooo damm cute. I want, but got 2 kitty cats that I suppose still babies at 10 months old. Well they're still babies to me :)

Very sweet, our new boy is 11 weeks and is completely mad at the mo.

Thanks guys :)

Not my doing though lol

Mother is going out more and more... I'm trying to find out where from but its so damn hard at the moment... I'm getting more and more of a handle of the Kittens though with her being out... even with her being there she isnt too bothered at the moment.

I have more pics that I need to sort through and will post up on here :)

Hey Guys,

Thought that I would do a little update... Kittens are starting to move around a lot more... and are also responding to me coming in... they are not shy as they were a week or so ago as I'm starting to old them now... I'm now wondering when they will start to eat solids as I will need to cater for that...

Mother is still getting out I have blocked a few holes I'm at the point now where I'm thinking about getting an IP cam to watch where she is getting out from but its too much of an expense, especially when you think of cat litter and food expenses... not that I'm saying that I regret doing this its more that, well, financially its a little strain.

Anyway here are some pics :)

Can anyone tell me what the mark is above the last pics eye? I'm a little confused over it..

I also have another vid that I will put up later... stuff to do :)

They're great at this age - so fluffy and clumsy :)

Stelly, it would be well worth finding out where the mother is getting out. If you can't properly cat proof the garage then you should take both mother and kittens into the house. Aside from the risk of the mother getting pregnant again, the kittens will very soon be in a position to follow her out. Far from ideal...

As for solid food - 8 weeks is the standard cut off. You could start leaving some kitten food out for them from 6 or 7 weeks, if you like, to see if any of them will have a curious nibble. but don't try to transition them properly to solid food until 8 weeks at the very earliest.

hmmm... see what you mean I will take a good look this weekend as I have some spare time and will try my best to get it sorted.

Garage clear out time :)

Stelly

Okay... lets get this sorted.... Can anyone recommend me a good cam that I can use that has good motion sensor tech??
